Drug Description

Indications

Qvar Redihaler is a prescribed breath-actuated inhaled medication used as a maintenance treatment to prevent and control asthma in individuals aged four and above.

Classified as a corticosteroid, Qvar Redihaler functions by alleviating airway inflammation in the lungs, facilitating easier breathing.

This medication requires regular usage and is not intended for immediate relief of sudden breathing problems; it should not be used as a substitute for a rescue inhaler.

Uses and Dosage

Before using Qvar Redihaler and with each prescription refill, carefully review its medication guide and patient information leaflet. For inquiries or uncertainties, seek guidance from your healthcare provider or pharmacist.

The initial dosage of this medication is determined according to previous asthma treatment and the severity of the condition.

Typically, Qvar Redihaler is administered twice daily as prescribed by the doctor.

Do not utilize a spacer device with this medication. Priming or shaking the inhaler before use is unnecessary.

To properly use this inhaler, follow these steps:

  1. Hold the inhaler upright and open the white cap just before using (avoid opening the cap until ready for inhalation).
  2. Exhale fully, making sure not to breathe out into the inhaler mouthpiece.
  3. Place the mouthpiece in your mouth and close your lips around it to create a proper seal.
  4. Inhale deeply to release the medicine into your lungs.
  5. Remove the inhaler from your mouth, hold your breath for 5 to 10 seconds, and then exhale slowly, away from the inhaler.
  6. If prescribed two puffs, close the white cap after the first inhalation and wait at least one minute before repeating steps 1 to 5 for the second puff.
  7. After inhalation, ensure to close the cap of the inhaler.
    • Do not expose any part of the inhaler to water or wash it.
    • Clean the inhaler’s mouthpiece weekly with a clean, dry tissue or cloth.
  8. After completing the prescribed number of inhalations, rinse your mouth with water to reduce the risk of a fungal infection (thrush) in your mouth. Do not swallow the rinse water.

Monitor the remaining inhalations using the dose counter at the back of the inhaler. When the dose counter reaches ‘0’, the background will turn red, indicating the inhaler is empty. Cease usage of the inhaler and dispose of it appropriately. Avoid disposing of the inhaler in a fire or incinerator.

For optimal results, use Qvar Redihaler at evenly spaced intervals and adhere to a consistent daily schedule.

If using other inhalers simultaneously, space them apart by at least 1 minute, and administer Qvar Redihaler last.

Use this inhaler exactly as directed, avoiding any dose increments or more frequent or prolonged usage than prescribed. Faster improvement is not guaranteed, and an elevated risk of side effects may occur with improper use.

Consult your doctor before discontinuing the use of Qvar Redihaler. Abruptly stopping this medication may worsen certain conditions. A gradual reduction of the dose may be necessary in some cases.
