Drug Description

Indications

Tekturna is a prescribed medication for hypertension treatment aimed at reducing blood pressure.

Reducing blood pressure mitigates the likelihood of fatal and nonfatal cardiovascular incidents, primarily strokes and myocardial infarctions.

Classified as a renin inhibitor (RI), Tekturna works by reducing certain natural chemicals that cause blood vessels to constrict. This action enables blood vessels to relax, aiding the heart in pumping blood more effectively.

Uses and Dosage

Before taking Tekturna and with every prescription refill, carefully read its medication guide and patient information leaflet. In case of any concerns, seek guidance from your doctor or pharmacist.

The dosage of this medication is contingent upon the patient’s medical condition and their response to the treatment.

Typically, Tekturna is taken once a day as prescribed by the doctor. It may be taken with or without food, but consistency in the chosen method is crucial for each medication administration.

For optimal outcomes, take this medication exactly as directed at the same time(s) every day. Avoid exceeding or reducing the prescribed dosage, and refrain from taking it more frequently than advised by your doctor.

Keep taking Tekturna even if you are feeling well. Cease usage only after consulting your doctor, as many individuals with high blood pressure do not experience symptoms of illness.

Cautions

Before starting treatment with Tekturna, inform your doctor if you have any known allergies, particularly to aliskiren or other medications.

Seek advice from your pharmacist regarding Tekturna to learn more about its inactive ingredients and possible allergic reactions or complications.

To ensure Tekturna is safe for you, disclose to your physician your medical background, especially if you have a history of:

  • Diabetes
  • Kidney disease
  • Dehydration
  • Elevated potassium level in the blood

Notify all healthcare providers of any current or recently started or stopped medications, including prescription and over-the-counter drugs, vitamins, and herbal supplements, to lower the risk of drug interaction with Tekturna.

Drug interactions with Tekturna include those that can raise potassium levels in the bloodstream, such as:

  • Sparsentan
  • ACE inhibitors (e.g., benazepril and lisinopril)
  • ARBs (e.g., candesartan and losartan)
  • Birth control pills containing drospirenone

Various medications can influence the elimination of Tekturna from the body, potentially impacting its efficacy. Examples of such medicines are itraconazole, cyclosporine, and quinidine, among others.

Certain products contain components that may elevate your blood pressure. Inform your pharmacist about the products you are using, and inquire about their safe usage, particularly for items like cough-and-cold products, dietary supplements, or NSAIDs such as ibuprofen/naproxen.

Abstain from consuming high-fat meals when taking Tekturna, as it can impede its absorption by the body.

Avoid taking Tekturna alongside fruit juices like apple, grapefruit, or orange, as they can reduce the drug’s absorption.

Unless directed by your doctor, avoid taking potassium supplements or using salt substitutes while taking Tekturna, for it can potentially elevate potassium levels in the blood.

Excessive sweating, diarrhea, or vomiting can lead to lightheadedness. Notify your doctor about persistent episodes of diarrhea or vomiting.

Tekturna is contraindicated for pregnant women. If pregnancy occurs, discontinue the medication, and promptly inform your physician. The use of Tekturna during the second or third trimester can lead to harm or fatality for the developing baby.
