Drug Description

Indications

Staxyn is a prescribed medication indicated for the treatment of erectile dysfunction (ED), a condition characterized by the inability to achieve or maintain an erection in men.

As a phosphodiesterase (PDE) inhibitor, Staxyn functions by enhancing penile blood circulation upon sexual arousal, potentially leading to an erection.

Uses and Dosage

Before taking Staxyn and with every prescription refill, carefully review its medication guide and patient information leaflet. Ask your doctor or pharmacist for any questions or concerns.

Staxyn comes as an orally disintegrating tablet and is usually taken as needed, without regard to food intake, 60 minutes before sexual activity.

To properly take this medication. Follow these steps:

  1. Ensure your hands are dry before handling the tablet.
  2. Adhere to the instructions on the package for extracting the tablet from the blister package.
    • Avoid attempting to force the tablet through the foil.
  3. Once the tablet is removed from the blister package, promptly place it on your tongue and close your mouth. The tablet will dissolve rapidly.
    • Do not take this medication with any form of liquid.

Refrain from exceeding one dose of Staxyn within a day and ensure a minimum 24-hour interval between doses.

Inform your physician if there is no improvement in your condition.

Concurrent use of Staxyn and nitrates can significantly reduce blood pressure, resulting in potential dizziness, fainting, and, in rare cases, heart attack or stroke. Avoid combining Staxyn with the following:

  • Specific medications for chest pain/angina (nitrates like nitroglycerin and isosorbide)
  • Recreational substances known as “poppers” containing amyl or butyl nitrite

  • Macrolide antibiotics (such as clarithromycin, erythromycin)
  • HIV protease inhibitors (including indinavir, ritonavir)

Avoid co-administration of Staxyn with any other product containing vardenafil or similar medications utilized for ED or pulmonary hypertension treatment, including sildenafil and tadalafil.

Grapefruit and Seville oranges can potentially interact with Staxyn, resulting in adverse effects. Refrain from consuming grapefruit products and Seville orange marmalades.

Staxyn orally disintegrating tablets are sweetened with sorbitol. Consult your doctor if you have fructose intolerance.

Staxyn usage does not offer protection against the transmission of sexually transmitted diseases like human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). Employ “safe sex” practices like utilizing latex condoms. For further information, consult your doctor or pharmacist.
