Description

Indications

Creon 10 is a prescribed medication indicated for individuals with exocrine pancreatic insufficiency (EPI), a condition characterized by insufficient enzyme production due to factors such as cystic fibrosis, chronic pancreatitis, pancreatectomy, or other related conditions, resulting in impaired food digestion.

As a pancreatic enzyme replacement therapy (PERT), Creon 10 functions by replacing the three key pancreatic enzymes (lipase, protease, and amylase) typically produced by a healthy pancreas. This aids in reducing excessive fat in bowel movements and enhances nutritional absorption by breaking down fats, proteins, and starches from food into more readily absorbable components within the intestines.

Uses and Dosage

Before taking Creon 10 and with every prescription refill, carefully read the accompanying medication guide and patient information leaflet. If you have any inquiries or need further clarification, do not hesitate to seek guidance from your doctor or pharmacist.

The dosage of this medication can differ among individuals depending on their medical conditions, diet, weight, and response to the treatment.

Typically, Creon 10 is taken in accordance with the doctor’s instructions with each meal and snack.

The capsules must be swallowed whole, without crushing or chewing, along with sufficient water to ensure proper ingestion. Do not suck or hold the capsule in your mouth, as it may irritate the inner lining of your mouth.

If you have difficulty swallowing the capsule, you can open it and mix the contents with a small amount of liquid or soft food (such as room-temperature applesauce). Swallow the mixture without chewing and follow it with water or juice. Do not save the mixture for later use.

Avoid mixing the capsule contents with alkaline foods or liquids. Consult your doctor or pharmacist for more information on which foods and liquids to avoid when mixing.

Refrain from inhaling the powder from the capsule or allow direct skin contact, as it can potentially induce irritation, particularly in the nasal and respiratory areas.

When consuming numerous meals or snacks daily, consult your doctor for guidance to avoid exceeding your daily prescribed dosage. Taking more of this medication than directed by your doctor will not expedite recovery and may heighten the likelihood of side effects.

Keep taking Creon 10 even if you feel well, and refrain from discontinuing treatment without consulting your doctor.

In case of a missed dose of Creon 10, contact your doctor or wait until your next meal to consume the regular number of capsules. Ensure that your next dose is taken at the regular scheduled time, and refrain from compensating for any missed doses.
