Indications 

Pred Forte is an ophthalmic medication prescribed to treat steroid-responsive inflammation of the palpebral and bulbar conjunctiva, cornea, and anterior segment of the globe. 

Classified as a corticosteroid, Pred Forte modulates the immune system to prevent symptoms such as swelling, redness, and itching. 

Uses and Dosage 

Before using Pred Forte and with every prescription refill, carefully review its medication guide and patient information leaflet. If you have any questions or concerns, consult your doctor or pharmacist. 

The dosage and duration of treatment with Pred Forte are determined by the patient’s medical condition and response to the treatment. 

Typically, one to two drops of Pred Forte are administered in the conjunctival sac two to four times daily. If needed, the dosage frequency may be raised during the first 24 to 48 hours. 

To properly administer Pred Forte, follow these steps: 

1. Prior to application, wash your hands thoroughly. 
2. Remove contact lenses (if wearing) before applying Pred Forte and allow a 15-minute interval before reinserting them. 
3. Do not touch the tip of the dropper or let it touch your eye, eyelid, or any other surface to prevent contamination. 
4. Shake the Pred Forte bottle well before use. 
5. Tilt your head back and look upward. Gently pull down your lower eyelid to create a small pouch. 
6. Directly over your eye, hold the dropper and place one drop into the pouch. 
7. Look downward and gently close your eyes for 1 to 2 minutes. 
8. To prevent the medication from draining out, place a finger at the corner of your eye near the nose and apply gentle pressure.  
9. Avoid blinking and refrain from rubbing your eye. 
10. Allow a minimum of 5 minutes before repeating these steps if your prescribed dose is more than one drop. 
11. Repeat steps 5 to 10 for the other eye if instructed. 
12. After use, securely replace and tighten the cap on the dropper bottle. Refrain from wiping or rinsing the dropper tip. 
13. Finally, wash your hands to remove any residue of the medication. 

For optimal results, use Pred Forte exactly as directed at a regular time(s) each day. Refrain from altering the prescribed number of drops and frequency of use without consulting your doctor. 

Complete the entire prescribed course of Pred Forte and consult your doctor before discontinuing its use, as stopping abruptly may worsen certain conditions. In some cases, a gradual reduction in dosage might be necessary. 

Inform your doctor if your condition does not show improvement within 48 hours or if it deteriorates. 

Side Effects 

Listed below are the potential adverse effects of Pred Forte. If any of these symptoms last or worsen, promptly notify your healthcare provider. 

Common Side Effects 

• Change in taste 
• A sensation of something in the eye 
• Headache 
• Burning 
• Stinging 
• Eye irritation 

Serious Side Effects 

• Altered vision 
• Eye pain 
• Severe eye irritation 

Inform your doctor right away and ask for medical help if any of the serious side effects listed above are experienced. 

Allergic Reactions 

Although rare, a severe allergic reaction to Pred Forte may occur. Promptly seek medical assistance if any of the following indications of severe allergic reactions are noticed:  

• Rash 
• Hives 
• Itching 
• Red, swollen, blistered, or peeling skin (with or without fever) 
• Wheezing 
• Tightness in the chest or throat 
• Difficulty breathing, swallowing, or speaking 
• Unusual hoarseness 
• Mouth, face, lips, tongue, or throat swelling 

Not all side effects of Pred Forte are included in this list. Inform your doctor right away if any unlisted effects occur. 

Cautions 

Before starting treatment with Pred Forte, inform your doctor of any known allergies, particularly to prednisolone or other medications. 

Consult your pharmacist for more information, as Pred Forte may contain inactive components that may trigger allergies or other complications. 

To ensure Pred Forte is safe for you, disclose to your physician your medical background, especially if you have a history of: 

• Eye infections 
• Recent eye surgery 
• Cataracts 
• Glaucoma (open-angle type) 
• Severe nearsightedness (myopia) 
• Diabetes 

Inform all your healthcare providers about any current, newly initiated, or discontinued medications, including prescription and non-prescription drugs, vitamins, and herbal supplements, to reduce the risk of drug interaction with Pred Forte. 

In the event of a new eye infection, injury, or the need for eye surgery, kindly consult your doctor regarding whether you should proceed with using your existing bottle of Pred Forte or initiate a fresh bottle 

Temporary blurred or unstable vision may occur after using Pred Forte. Refrain from driving, operating machinery, or engaging in activities that demand clear vision until you can do so safely. 

Pred Forte should only be used during pregnancy if absolutely necessary. Consult with your doctor to understand the potential risks and benefits of this medication. 

The transfer of corticosteroid into the breast milk through ophthalmic application is uncertain. Prior to breastfeeding, seek medical advice.
