Drug Description

Indications

Orajel Extra is indicated for temporarily reducing toothache pain in cases of a broken tooth or a tooth needing a filling.

Classified as a local anesthetic, Orajel Extra works by temporarily obstructing the transmission of pain signals along the nerves and numbing the affected region.

Uses and Dosage

Thoroughly examine and follow the instructions outlined on the packaging and leaflet of Orajel Extra before the first use and for each subsequent refill. For any questions or concerns, consult with your doctor or pharmacist.

Orajel Extra comes in gel form to be applied on the aching tooth up to four times daily.

To use the gel:

  1. Unscrew the cap.
  2. Cut off the tube tip.
  3. Use a clean finger or swab to apply a pea-sized amount of gel into the tooth cavity.

For best results, use Orajel Extra exactly as directed. Do not use more of it or apply it more frequently than recommended.

This gel is for short-term use only until a dental visit is possible. Avoid continuous use. If toothache persists, seek advice from your dentist.

Side Effects

The use of Orajel Extra may result in side effects, though not everyone may experience them. Discontinue the use of this gel and promptly contact your doctor or dentist if you experience:

  • Skin irritation
  • Methemoglobinemia (difficulty converting methemoglobin to hemoglobin)

Seek medical advice if symptoms persist or worsen or are accompanied by fever, headache, breathlessness, nausea, or vomiting.

Allergic Reactions

Orajel Extra may trigger allergic reactions such as burning, stinging, itching, redness, rash, or swelling.

Seek medical aid right away if any of the following signs of allergic response occur.

The side effects of Orajel Extra listed here are not exhaustive. If other troublesome side effects are experienced, seek advice from your doctor or dentist.

Cautions

Talk to your doctor before using Orajel Extra if you have any known hypersensitivities, particularly to benzocaine or to any of the ingredients in this gel, especially sorbic acid.

Do not use Orajel Extra if you are currently taking sulphonamide antibiotics, such as co-trimoxazole, as benzocaine may impede their effectiveness.

Consult your doctor, pharmacist, or dentist if you are currently using or have recently taken other medications, including prescription and non-prescription drugs, vitamins, and herbal supplements.

If pregnant or breastfeeding, consult your healthcare provider before using Orajel Extra to ensure safety for both you and your child.
