Drug Description

Indications

Procardia XL is a prescription medicine indicated for the treatment of hypertension (high blood pressure). By reducing blood pressure, it helps lower the chances of fatal and nonfatal cardiovascular incidents, particularly strokes and heart attacks.

This medication is also prescribed for select forms of angina, aiding in enhancing exercise capacity and reducing the frequency of chest pain episodes. However, it should not be utilized for immediate relief during chest pain occurrences.

Classified as a calcium-channel blocker, Procardia XL reduces blood pressure by inducing relaxation in the blood vessels, alleviating the strain on the heart. It also effectively manages chest pain by enhancing the heart’s blood and oxygen supply.

Uses and Dosage

Before taking Procardia XL and with each prescription refill, carefully review its medication guide and patient information leaflet. If you have any inquiries, seek clarification from your doctor or pharmacist.

Procardia XL dosage is determined according to individual medical conditions and treatment response.

Your doctor will likely initiate this medication at a low dose and incrementally raise it, usually every 7 to 14 days. Strictly adhere to your doctor’s instructions.

Procardia Xl is usually taken once daily, regardless of meals. Swallow the tablets whole and avoid biting or dividing them, as this may lead to the rapid release of the entire medication, heightening the chances of experiencing side effects.

To achieve optimal outcomes, take this medication at a consistent time every day. Continue taking it even if you are feeling well, as most individuals with high blood pressure do not exhibit symptoms of illness.

Consult your doctor before discontinuing Procardia XL, as abrupt cessation of this medication may worsen your condition. Gradually reducing your dose may be necessary.
