Drug Description

Indications

Benzac W Wash is a topical gel is a topical medication commonly used to treat mild to moderate acne. It contains benzoyl peroxide. Benzoyl peroxide also has keratolytic properties, meaning it helps to exfoliate the skin and remove dead skin cells.

The gel works by reducing the amount of acne-causing bacteria on the skin and by causing the skin to dry and peel. This helps to unclog pores and prevent the formation of comedones (blackheads and whiteheads).

When applied to the affected areas of the skin, benzoyl peroxide penetrates the hair follicles and pores. It helps to kill the bacteria that contribute to acne, specifically Propionibacterium acnes (P. acnes). By reducing the number of bacteria, it helps to reduce inflammation and prevent new breakouts from forming.

Use and Dosage

Benzac W Wash Topical Gel is for external use only. It should be used or applied once or twice daily to the affected area or as directed by your doctor. Start with one application daily and increase to twice daily if needed.

To use Benzac W Wash, follow these general instructions:

  1. Wet the affected areas of your skin with water.
  2. Gently rub the cleanser into the skin for 10-20 seconds.
  3. Apply a small amount of the gel to your fingertips and gently massage it onto the affected areas.
  4. Leave the gel on your skin for a few minutes before rinsing it off thoroughly with water.
  5. Pat your skin dry with a clean towel.
  6. Wash your hands after applying the gel.

If you are using the wash to treat rosacea, apply benzoyl peroxide to your face. Avoid getting it into your eyes, inside your nose or mouth, on the lips, or on any areas of broken skin since it may cause irritation.

Benzac W Wash should be used exactly as prescribed by your doctor. If you miss an application, apply the medication as soon as possible. If it is almost time for your next application, skip that missed dose and carry on with your regular schedule. Do not apply more often than prescribed by your doctor.
