Description

Indications

Nicoderm Clear is a transdermal patch used to aid individuals in quitting smoking as part of a comprehensive smoking cessation program, which incorporates behavior modification, counseling, and support.

As a smoking cessation agent, Nicoderm Patch works by delivering a controlled, reduced amount of nicotine into the bloodstream through the skin. This gradual process helps the body adapt to reduced nicotine intake, alleviating withdrawal symptoms such as cravings during the quit-smoking process.

Uses and Dosage

Prior to initial use and each subsequent refill, carefully review the guidelines provided on the packaging of Nicoderm Clear. Should you have any inquiries, seek advice from your doctor or pharmacist.

Nicoderm Clear is intended for application to the skin. It should be applied to a clean, dry, non-hairy area above the waist (front or back) or the upper outer arm.

The patch must be replaced daily. Rotation of application sites is recommended to prevent skin irritation.

Nicoderm Clear is available in three strengths, with usage based on the number of cigarettes smoked per day.

For individuals smoking over 10 cigarettes daily, adhere to the 10-week schedule as outlined:

  • STEP 1: one 21mg patch daily during weeks 1-6.
  • STEP 2: one 14mg patch daily for weeks 7-8.
  • STEP 3: one 7mg patch daily throughout weeks 9-10.

If smoking 10 or fewer cigarettes daily, omit STEP 1 (21 mg). Initiate with STEP 2 (14 mg) for 6 weeks, followed by STEP 3 (7 mg) for 2 weeks, then discontinue use.

If a doctor prescribes Nicodrem Clear, adhere closely to the provided instructions.

Treatment with Nicoderm Clear usually starts on the designated quit day.

The patch can be worn for either 16 or 24 hours. If morning cravings are experienced, wear the patch for 24 hours. In the case of vivid dreams or sleep disturbances, the patch may be removed at bedtime and replaced the following morning.

To correctly apply the patch, follow these steps:

  1. Remove the patch from the package.
  2. Peel off the protective strip and promptly apply the patch to the skin.
  3. Press firmly for 10 to 20 seconds to ensure the patch stays in place.
    • Ensure the edges are securely adhered to the skin.
  4. Wash your hands with plain water after applying the patch; avoid using soap.

Avoid applying the patch to red, cut, or irritated skin, and refrain from placing it over other skin products such as makeup, lotions, or powders.

For the best outcome, use Nicoderm Clear precisely as directed on the product package or as advised by your doctor. Apply the patch at around the same times daily to enhance adherence and effectiveness.

Refrain from wearing more than one patch at a time and avoid leaving the patch on for over 24 hours to prevent potential skin irritation and loss of efficacy.

Complete the entire treatment duration with Nicoderm Clear. If you find it necessary to extend patch usage for continued smoking cessation, consult your healthcare provider for guidance.

The application of heat may lead to an increased release of the drug into the body, elevating the risk of side effects.

Before undergoing an MRI, inform the testing staff about your use of the Nicoderm Clear, as it may contain metals that could result in severe burns during the procedure. Consult your doctor regarding the necessity of removing the patch before the test, applying a new one afterward, and proper removal and application procedures.
