Indications 

Diclofenac patches are indicated for the alleviation of pain associated with a range of conditions, including but not limited to sprained ankles. This pharmaceutical agent belongs to nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). In cases of chronic ailments such as arthritis, consult with a healthcare professional regarding non-pharmacological interventions and alternative medication options for the management of pain. 

Uses and Dosage 

Flector is specifically indicated for the topical management of acute pain resulting from minor strains, sprains, and contusions in adult patients and pediatric individuals aged six years and above. 

The dosage of this medication should be determined based on your medical condition and your response to the treatment. To minimize the risk of potential side effects, including stomach bleeding, utilize the lowest effective dose for the shortest duration possible. Adhere to the prescribed dosage and refrain from increasing it or using it more frequently than instructed. 

The Flector patch is packaged in a resealable envelope. When opening the envelope for the first time, carefully follow the provisions to cut it open. Remove a single patch from the envelope and promptly reseal the envelope. Reseal the envelope after each opening to ensure the remaining patches adhere correctly. 

Before applying the patch, remove the clear liner. Apply the patch onto the skin, covering the area of most intense pain. Avoid applying the patch on burns, cuts, or irritated skin, such as areas affected by eczema. Use the patch following your doctor’s instructions. The patch is typically changed every 12 or 24 hours, depending on the specific product. Follow the directions attentively. After removing the used patch, fold it in half with the sticky sides together and dispose of it in a manner that keeps it out of reach of children and pets. 

Side Effects 

Common Side Effects

You may experience the following, at the site of the application, when using this medication: 

• Itching 
• Burning 
• Irritation 
• Redness 
• Dryness  

Should any of these effects persist or worsen, inform your doctor or pharmacist. 

Severe Side Effects

Remember that this medication has been prescribed to you because your doctor has determined that the benefits outweigh the potential risks of side effects. Note that many individuals using this medication do not encounter severe side effects. 

Notify your doctor immediately in the event of any severe side effects, such as:  

• Signs of kidney problems, such as:  
  • Changes in urine output 
• Symptoms of heart failure, such as: 
  • Swelling in the ankles or feet 
  • Unusual fatigue 
  • Sudden or significant weight gain  

Cautions 

Before using diclofenac, inform your doctor or pharmacist about any allergies you may have, including allergies to diclofenac itself, aspirin, and other nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) like ibuprofen, naproxen, or celecoxib, or any other substances. This product may contain inactive ingredients that can cause allergic reactions or other complications. For further information, consult your pharmacist. 

Before initiating this medication, disclose your medical history to your doctor or pharmacist, particularly if you have a history of asthma, including worsened breathing following the ingestion of aspirin or other NSAIDs. Other medical conditions of importance include stomach or intestinal issues such as:  

• Bleeding or ulcers 
• Liver disease 
• Poorly controlled diabetes 
• Heart disease (such as a prior heart attack) 
• High blood pressure 
• History of stroke 
• Swelling (edema) or water retention 
• Blood disorders such as anemia or bleeding/clotting problems 
• Presence of growths in the nasal passages known as nasal polyps
