Description

Indications

Maxidex Ointment is prescribed to alleviate eye inflammation resulting from allergies, shingles (herpes zoster), severe acne, iritis, uveitis, eye injury, radiation, chemical burns, or other specified conditions.

Classified as a corticosteroid, Maxidex Ointment works by relieving swelling, itching, and redness associated with corticosteroid-responsive eye conditions, though its exact mechanism of action remains unknown.

Uses and Dosage

Before initiating treatment and with each prescription refill, carefully review the medication guide and patient information leaflet for Maxidex Ointment. If you have any queries or need further information, do not hesitate to consult your doctor or pharmacist.

Maxidex Ointment is usually applied to the affected eye(s) up to four times daily. If improvement occurs, your doctor may gradually decrease the frequency to once daily for a few days.

To properly apply this ointment:

  1. Begin by washing your hands thoroughly.
  2. Tilt your head back and gently pull down on the skin just under your eye to create a V pocket.
  3. Apply a small amount of ointment (about 1/2-inch strip) into the V pocket.
    • Do not allow the tube tip to touch your eye or any other surfaces to prevent contamination.
  4. Close the eye and move it in all directions to spread the medication, avoiding blinking or rubbing.
  5. If directed, repeat steps 2-4 for the other eye.
  6. Wipe the ointment tube tip with a clean tissue to remove excess medication before recapping it.
  7. After each application, remember to wash your hands thoroughly.

If using multiple topical ophthalmic products, ensure a minimum 5-minute interval between administrations, with eye ointments administered last.

To maximize the benefits of Maxidex Ointment, use it regularly, exactly as directed at around the same time(s) daily.

The length of treatment with this ointment depends on the severity of the condition for each person. Follow the prescribed duration and consult your doctor before discontinuing use, as abruptly stopping may worsen certain conditions. Gradually reducing your dose may be necessary.
