Drug Description

Indications

Travatan Eyedrops are prescribed for the management of elevated intraocular pressure (IOP) in individuals with open-angle glaucoma or ocular hypertension.

As a prostaglandin analog, Travatan Eyedrops functions by enhancing the drainage of fluid from the eye to lower IOP.

Uses and Dosage

Before using Travatan Eyedrops and with every prescription refill, carefully review its medication guide and patient information leaflet. If you have any queries, seek guidance from your healthcare provider or pharmacist.

Travatan Eyedrops are usually administered to the affected eye once daily in the evening as prescribed by the doctor.

To properly use this eye drop, follow these steps:

  1. Wash your hands first before applying the eyedrop.
    • To prevent contamination, refrain from touching the dropper tip or allowing it to contact your eye or any surface.
  2. Tilt your head back and gaze upward, then gently pull down your lower eyelid to create a small pouch.
  3. Directly position the dropper over your eye and instill one drop into the pouch.
  4. Shift your gaze downward and gently close your eyes for 1 to 2 minutes.
  5. Place a finger at the corner of your eye near the nose and apply gentle pressure to prevent the medication from draining out.
    • Avoid blinking and refrain from rubbing your eyes during this time.
  6. If directed, repeat steps 2-5 for your other eye.
  7. After each use, securely replace the dropper cap, and do not rinse the dropper.

To achieve the best outcomes, use Travatan Eyedrops exactly as directed at around the same times each day. Avoid increased frequency of use, as it will not enhance its effectiveness.

If utilizing a different type of eye medication, like drops or ointments, ensure a minimum interval of 5 minutes before applying other treatments. Administer eye drops before eye ointments to enable proper penetration of the drops into the eye.

Keep using these eye drops even if you are feeling well, as many individuals with glaucoma or elevated eye pressure may not experience symptoms.

To maintain the quality of Travatan Eyedrops, store them at a cool room temperature, away from moisture and heat. Remember to always keep the bottle tightly sealed when not in use.

Cautions

Before starting treatment with Travatan Eyedrops, inform your doctor if you have any known allergies, particularly to travoprost or to similar drugs like bimatoprost or latanoprost.

Consult your pharmacist for additional information about Travatan Eyedrops, as they may contain inactive ingredients that may trigger allergic reactions or other complications.

To ensure Travatan Eyedrops is safe for you, disclose to your physician your medical background, especially if you have a history of other ocular conditions (e.g., macular edema, iritis, uveitis, lens extraction/aphakia).

Travatan Eyedrops can have interactions with certain products, such as eyelash treatments containing bimatoprost. To minimize these interactions, inform your healthcare providers about all the products you are using, including medications (prescription and nonprescription), vitamins, and herbal supplements that you have recently started or stopped.

In case of an eye infection, injury, or following eye surgery, consult your doctor regarding the ongoing use of your existing Travatan Eyedrops bottle. Your doctor may recommend starting a new bottle.

Prior to any surgical procedure, including eye surgery, inform the surgeon in advance about your use of Travatan Eyedrops. There may be a necessity to temporarily discontinue its usage.

Travatan may induce a gradual alteration in eye, eyelid, and eyelash color, often enhancing brown pigment. These changes progress slowly and might not be apparent for several months or years. They can be permanent even after treatment cessation, typically affecting only the treated eye, potentially leading to a cosmetic discrepancy in eye or eyelash color between both eyes.

Temporary vision blurring may occur after applying Travatan Eyedrop. Avoid driving, using machinery, or engaging in tasks requiring clear vision until it is safe to do so.

The potential impact of Travatan Eyedrops on an unborn baby is currently unknown. Inform your doctor if you are pregnant or intend to become pregnant.

The transfer of travoprost ophthalmic into breast milk and its potential effects on a nursing baby remain uncertain. If you are breastfeeding, discuss this with your doctor.
