Description

Indications

Maxidex Suspension is prescribed for the relief of eye inflammation caused by allergies, shingles (herpes zoster), severe acne, iritis, uveitis, eye injury, radiation, chemical burns, or certain other conditions.

Furthermore, Maxidex Suspension is indicated for addressing inflammation-related swelling, redness, and itching in the external ear.

As a corticosteroid medication, Maxidex Suspension works by reducing inflammation in corticosteroid-responsive eye and ear conditions.

Uses and Dosage

Before initiating treatment and with each prescription refill, carefully read the medication guide and patient information leaflet for Maxidex Suspension. For inquiries or further information, consult your doctor or pharmacist.

The recommended number of drops, usage frequency, and treatment duration with Maxidex Suspension differ for each individual, contingent upon the severity of the condition and response to the treatment.

Prior to applying this mediation, ensure your hands are washed. To prevent contamination, refrain from touching the dropper tip or allowing it to come into contact with any surfaces, including the eyes and ears.

For eye application:

  1. Remove contact lenses (if wearing) before applying Maxidex Suspension.
    • Lenses can be reinserted 15 minutes after administering the medication.
    • Refrain from putting contacts back in if your eyes are irritated or infected.
  2. Shake the bottle thoroughly before use.
  3. Tilt your head back, look upward, and pull down the lower eyelid to create a pouch.
  4. Hold the dropper directly over your eye and administer 1 drop into the pouch.
  5. Look downward, gently close your eyes for 1 to 2 minutes, and place a finger at the corner of your eye (near the nose) to apply gentle pressure, preventing medication drainage.
    • Avoid blinking or rubbing your eyes during this time.
  6. Repeat the process for the other eye if directed and if your dose requires more than 1 drop.
  7. Do not rinse the dropper and replace the dropper cap after each use.

If using a different type of eye medication (e.g., other drops or ointments), wait 5 to 10 minutes before applying additional treatments. Administer eye drops before eye ointments to facilitate entry of the drops into the eye.

For ear application:

  1. Clean and dry the ear canal before applying the medication.
    • To ensure accurate dosage and prevent ear contact with the dropper, have another person insert the drops if possible.
  2. Shake the bottle well before use.
    • To minimize the risk of dizziness, warm the bottle by holding it in your hand for a few minutes.
  3. Lie on your side or tilt the affected ear upward.
  4. Hold the dropper directly over the ear and instill the prescribed number of drops into the ear canal.
    • Assist the drops in reaching the ear by holding the earlobe up and back for adults or down and back for children.
  5. Maintain the head tilted for 5 minutes or insert a soft cotton plug if directed.
    • Leave the cotton plug in the ear for 12 to 24 hours or as directed. Replace the plug at least once a day.
  6. Repeat the process for the other ear if directed.
  7. Do not rinse the dropper and replace the dropper cap after each use.

To achieve optimal results, use Maxidex Suspension regularly, exactly as directed at the same time(s) daily. Avoid exceeding the prescribed number of drops and frequency of use, as doing so may elevate the risk of side effects.

Complete the prescribed duration of this medication. Consult your doctor before discontinuing use, as abrupt cessation may exacerbate certain conditions. Adjustments to your dose may be necessary and should be done gradually under medical guidance.
