Description
Indications
The Flexi-T+ 380 is an intrauterine device (IUD) that is used for contraception. It is a larger version of the Flexi-T+ 300 and contains 380 mm² of copper. It is made of polypropylene mixed with barium sulfate, which makes it visible on X-rays. The IUD is inserted into the uterus by a healthcare provider.
The Flexi-T+ 380 is made of polypropylene mixed with barium sulfate, which makes it visible on X-rays. It is a hormone-free IUD and does not affect the body’s natural hormonal balance. The device is a hormone-free IUD, which means it does not release any hormones into the body.
It provides long-term contraception and can be used for up to 5 years. It works by creating an environment in the uterus that is hostile to sperm, preventing fertilization. It also changes the lining of the uterus, making it less receptive to a fertilized egg.
Use and Dosage
Flexi T plus 380 is inserted by a healthcare provider into the uterus through the cervix. The procedure takes only a few minutes and is done in a healthcare setting. It has a maximum in situ time of five years. A new Flexi-T can be inserted immediately after removal. Here are the steps on how to use it:
- Consult with your healthcare provider to determine whether the IUD is the right form of birth control for you.
- Choose a day to have the IUD inserted. It can be inserted anytime during your menstrual cycle as long as you are not currently pregnant.
- Your healthcare provider will first perform a pelvic exam to determine the position and size of your uterus.
- The IUD will then be inserted through the cervical opening and into your uterus.
- The IUD’s string will be cut to the appropriate length, which allows you to check that it is still in place.
- After the IUD is inserted, you may experience some cramping and spotting for a few days.
Your healthcare provider will likely schedule a follow-up appointment to make sure the IUD is still in place and to address any concerns you may have.

Cautions
- Some individuals may have a copper allergy or sensitivity. Discuss any known allergies or sensitivities with a healthcare provider before considering the Flexi-T+ 380.
- There is a small risk of developing pelvic inflammatory disease (PID) after the insertion of an IUD. Ensure that there are no existing infections in the genital tract before inserting the IUD.
- Certain uterine abnormalities, such as a distorted or abnormally shaped uterus, may affect the proper placement and effectiveness of the IUD. A healthcare provider will evaluate the suitability of the Flexi-T+ 380 based on individual circumstances.
- Although rare, there is a small risk of ectopic pregnancy with IUD use. If a woman experiences severe abdominal pain or abnormal bleeding while using the Flexi-T+ 380, it could be an indication of an ectopic pregnancy and requires immediate medical attention.
- IUDs may occasionally be expelled from the uterus. If a woman notices the IUD has come out or suspects expulsion, she should contact her healthcare provider.
- In rare cases, the IUD may perforate the uterus during insertion. This can cause damage to surrounding organs. A healthcare provider should be notified if there is severe pain or unusual symptoms after insertion.
- Common side effects of IUDs include heavier or longer periods, cramping, and spotting between periods. These side effects usually subside over time, but if they persist or become severe, consult a healthcare provider.
