Drug Description

Indications

Motilium is a prescribed medication utilized for various conditions, such as:

  • Treating nausea and vomiting, including those caused by migraine headaches
  • Preventing nausea and vomiting caused by specific medications used in Parkinson’s disease treatment, like levodopa and pergolide
  • Alleviating discomfort caused by gastroparesis, a condition characterized by a slow-moving stomach, which may manifest as indigestion (dyspepsia), incomplete meal consumption, post-meal fullness or bloating, reduced appetite, feelings of sickness, potential vomiting, or unproductive belching

Motilium is a dopamine antagonist drug that functions as an antiemetic and prokinetic agent. By blocking dopamine receptors in the gut, this medication enhances muscle contractions in the digestive tract, facilitating food movement.

Moreover, this medication affects the chemoreceptor trigger zone in the brain, reducing feelings of nausea and vomiting.

Uses and Dosage

Before starting treatment with Motilium and with each prescription refill, carefully review its medication guide and patient information leaflet. Consult your doctor or pharmacist if you have queries or uncertainties.

The appropriate dosage and duration of Motilium usage vary based on the individual’s medical condition and response to treatment.

Typically, this medication is taken 3 to 4 times a day as prescribed by the doctor. Tablets must be swallowed whole with a glass of water and should not be crushed or chewed.

To ensure optimal absorption, take Motilium 15 to 30 minutes before meals. Taking them after meals may cause a slight delay in absorption.

Take this medication exactly as directed. Refrain from altering the prescribed dosage, frequency, or duration of intake without consulting your doctor.
