Description

Indications 

Nexium granules for oral suspension are a medication used to treat a variety of stomach and esophagus problems, such as acid reflux, inflammation of the stomach and esophagus, ulcers in the stomach or intestines, and stomach acid reflux. 

The prescription esomeprazole is used to treat damage from GERD in adults and children 1 month of age and older. Esomeprazole magnesium contains a substance called esomeprazole, which belongs to a group of medicines called proton pump inhibitors. These work by reducing the amount of acid produced by the stomach, which helps to relieve symptoms of acid reflux, ulcers, and other stomach and esophagus problems.  

Use and Dosage 

The medication is available in sachets or packets, with dosages from 10mg to 40mg. The granules are typically mixed with water before being taken orally, either by drinking or by being given via a nasogastric (NG) tube.  

Empty the contents of one sachet of Nexium granules for oral suspension into a glass or container. Add 15 ml of water to the container and stir well and drink the mixture within 30 minutes of mixing. If you are using a nasogastric (NG) tube, add the contents of one sachet of Nexium granules for oral suspension to a syringe, add 15 ml of water, and mix well. Administer the mixture through the NG tube, and then flush the tube with additional water. 

The dosage of Nexium granules for oral suspension will depend on the patient’s condition, age, and weight, as well as the healthcare provider’s instructions. The medication is available in dosages ranging from 10mg to 40mg, with the following guidelines: 

  • For patients weighing less than 20kg: 10mg once daily 
  • For patients weighing more than or equal to 20kg: 10mg to 20mg once daily 
  • In some cases, the dosage may be increased to 40mg once daily, depending on the patient’s condition.

  • Patients should not use Nexium granules for oral suspension if they are allergic to esomeprazole or any of its ingredients. 
  • Patients should not crush or chew the granules and should not mix them with any other liquids or foods, unless directed by a healthcare professional. 
  • Patients should not use Nexium granules for oral suspension for longer than prescribed, as prolonged use may increase the risk of side effects. 
  • Patients should inform their healthcare provider of all medications they are currently taking before using Nexium granules for oral suspension, as it may interact with other medications. 
  • Patients should avoid taking Nexium granules for oral suspension with food, as this may reduce its effectiveness. 
  • Patients should not stop taking Nexium granules for oral suspension without first consulting their healthcare provider.

  • It is not recommended for use in children under the age of 1.

  • If too much Nexium Granules for Oral Suspension is taken, seek medical attention immediately. Overdose symptoms may include confusion, drowsiness, blurred vision, dry mouth, nausea, vomiting, sweating, flushing, headache, and fast or uneven heartbeats.
