Drug Description

Indications 

Potaba Sachets are a prescription-only medicine used to treat certain skin disorders such as dermatomyositis, scleroderma, and Peyronie’s disease. It can be used to treat disorders that are associated with the formation of excess fibrous tissue in the body. 

They contain the active ingredient Aminobenzoate Potassium and are available in powder form in 3g sachets. It belongs to the B group of vitamins. It works by increasing the utilization of certain nutrients in the body, such as pantothenic acid, and by stabilizing scar tissue.  

Use and Dosage 

Potaba Sachet comes in the form of powder that should be taken by mouth with food as directed by your doctor, usually 4 to 6 times daily. Mix your dose in a full glass of cold water or citrus juice. Stir well to dissolve and drink the entire mixture right away. If you use water to prepare the mixture, you may also drink a citrus or carbonated beverage after taking each dose to wash away the taste of the medication. The powder should be dissolved in water or juice and consumed immediately after mixing.  

The recommended dosage for Peyronie’s disease is 12 g (four sachets) daily, divided into four doses of 3 g each. For scleroderma, the recommended dosage is 24 g (eight sachets) daily, divided into eight doses of 3 g each. The dosage instructions provided by your healthcare provider and not to exceed the recommended dosage. 

If you miss a dose of Potaba Sachet, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it is close to the time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dosing schedule. Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one.

Serious Side Effects 

  • Allergic reaction such as difficulty breathing, hives 
  • Swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat. 

Cautions 

  • Allergic reactions: Potaba Sachets may cause allergic reactions in some individuals. Symptoms of an allergic reaction may include hives, difficulty breathing, and swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat. If you experience any of these symptoms, seek medical attention immediately. 
  • Kidney disease: Potaba Sachets may be harmful to individuals with kidney disease. If you have kidney disease, talk to your doctor before taking Potaba Sachets. 
  • Bleeding disorders: Potaba Sachets may increase the risk of bleeding in individuals with bleeding disorders. If you have a bleeding disorder, talk to your doctor before taking Potaba Sachets. 
  • Pregnancy and breastfeeding: The safety of Potaba Sachets during pregnancy and breastfeeding is not known. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, talk to your doctor before taking Potaba Sachets. 
  • Interactions with other medications: Potaba Sachets may interact with other medications, including blood thinners and sulfa drugs. Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking Potaba Sachets with other medications. 
  • Gastrointestinal (GI) disturbances: Potaba Sachets may cause GI disturbances such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and abdominal discomfort. If you experience any of these symptoms, talk to your doctor. 
  • Diabetes: Potaba Sachets may affect blood sugar levels and may require adjustments in insulin or other diabetes medications. If you have diabetes, talk to your doctor before taking Potaba Sachets. 
  • Liver disease: Potaba Sachets may be harmful to individuals with liver disease. If you have liver disease, talk to your doctor before taking Potaba Sachets. 
  • Interference with laboratory tests: Potaba Sachets may interfere with certain laboratory tests, such as urinary ketones and glucose tests. If you are undergoing laboratory tests, inform your healthcare provider that you are taking Potaba Sachets. 
  • Dosage and administration: Potaba Sachets should be taken exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Do not exceed the recommended dose and do not stop taking Potaba Sachets without consulting your doctor. If you miss a dose, take it as soon as possible and continue with your regular dosing schedule.
