Description

Indications

Sporanox Oral Solution is a prescription medication used to treat fungal infections in the mouth, throat, and/or gullet. It is commonly used to treat various fungal infections, including candidiasis (yeast infections) of the mouth, throat, and esophagus, and certain systemic fungal infections.

Sporanox contains an active substance called Itraconazole. Itraconazole belongs to a class of medications known as azole antifungals. It works by inhibiting the growth of fungi that cause infections. When taken orally, the active ingredient, itraconazole, is absorbed into the bloodstream and distributed throughout the body. It then targets and interferes with the production of ergosterol, a key component of fungal cell membranes. This disruption weakens the fungal cells, leading to their death and eliminating the infection.

Use and Dosage

Sporanox Oral Solution should be taken on an empty stomach, usually at least one hour before or two hours after a meal. Avoid drinking grapefruit juice while taking Sporanox Oral Solution, as it may increase the levels of itraconazole in the body.

Shake the bottle well before each use to ensure proper mixing of the solution. Use the provided dosing syringe or measuring cup to measure the correct amount of solution.

The specific dosage and duration of treatment with Sporanox Oral Solution may vary depending on the type and severity of the fungal infection. For instance:

  • Oropharyngeal Candidiasis: The usual recommended dosage is 200mg (20mL) daily for 12 weeks. For fluconazole-resistant cases, the dosage may be 100mg (10mL) twice daily.
  • Esophageal Candidiasis: The usual recommended dosage is 100mg (10mL) daily. In some cases, doses up to 200mg per day may be used.

If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it is close to the time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and resume your regular dosing schedule. Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one.
