Indications
Veregen is a topical ointment prescribed for managing external genital and perianal warts (Condylomata acuminata) in immunocompetent individuals aged 18 years and above.
Veregen is an herbal product sourced from green tea leaves with an unclear mode of action. Although it does not have curative properties for warts, it may accelerate the eradication of the infection.
Uses and Dosage
Veregen is intended for external use only and should not be used in the eyes, mouth, or inside the vagina/anus.
Carefully review the medication guide and patient information leaflet provided by your pharmacist before starting Veregen or getting a prescription refill. If you have any concerns or questions, do not hesitate to consult with your healthcare provider or pharmacist.
Veregen is typically applied to all external genital and perianal warts thrice daily (morning, evening, and before bedtime) as prescribed by the doctor.
To properly use this ointment, follow these steps:
- Begin by washing your hands thoroughly.
- Apply an approximately 0.5 cm strand of Veregen to each wart using your finger(s). Ensure complete coverage by gently dabbing the ointment, leaving a thin layer on the warts.
- Avoid covering the warts with bandages, sanitary napkins, or any other protective materials. Instead, wear loose-fitting clothing over the treated skin areas.
- Remember to wash your hands after each application.
- Do not wash the ointment prior to your next dose. Reapply the ointment following swimming, bathing, or showering.
Refrain from touching your eyes, nose, or mouth while the ointment is on your fingers. In case of contact with these areas, rinse with abundant water. If irritation ensues, promptly seek medical attention.
For women using tampons, it is advised to insert the tampon before applying the ointment. If a tampon change is necessary while the ointment is applied to the skin, take care to prevent any ointment from entering the vagina.
For men applying the ointment to an uncircumcised penis, daily cleaning beneath the foreskin is recommended.
To maximize the effectiveness of Veregen, apply it consistently. Keep using it until the warts have disappeared.
Do not exceed a 16-week usage period unless instructed by your physician. Inform your doctor if there is no improvement in your condition or if new warts emerge.
Side Effects
Listed below are the potential adverse effects of Veregen. Notify your doctor right away if any of these symptoms last or worsen.

Allergic Reactions
Although rare, a severe allergic reaction to Veregen may occur. Prompt medical help must be sought upon noticing any signs of an allergic reaction, such as:
- Hives
- Difficulty in breathing
- Face, lips, tongue, or throat swelling

Cautions

To ensure Veregen is safe for you, disclose to your physician your medical background, especially if you have a history of:
- Open sores in the treated area
- Recent or unhealed treatment or wounds in the wart area (e.g., podophyllin, liquid nitrogen, surgery)
- Immune system disorder
Veregen is unlikely to interact with oral or injectable drugs. Nevertheless, due to potential interactions among various medications, informing all your healthcare providers about your complete medication regimen is recommended, including prescriptions, over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, and herbal products.
Veregen ointment has the potential to stain light-colored clothing or bed sheets. Avoid getting the ointment on these surfaces to prevent staining and consider wearing dark-colored clothing.
Protect treated skin from exposure to sunlight or artificial UV rays like those emitted by sun lamps for tanning beds.
Veregen does not provide protection against transmitting genital or anal warts to another person through skin-to-skin contact or sexual intercourse. Consult your doctor for guidance on safe methods to prevent the transmission of genital warts during sexual activity.
Refrain from engaging in sexual activity while Veregen is applied to your skin. Prior to intercourse, ensure the ointment is thoroughly washed off, regardless of condom usage. This ointment has the potential to compromise the latex material of a rubber condom, leading to potential breakage.
The effect of Veregen on a developing fetus is uncertain. Notify your healthcare provider if you are pregnant or plan to conceive while using this medication.
The potential transfer of sinecatechins into breast milk and its impact on nursing babies remains uncertain. Inform your doctor if you are breastfeeding before using this medication.
