Drug Description

Indications

Westcort Ointment is a prescription medicine indicated for the treatment of inflammatory and itchy manifestations of corticosteroid-responsive skin disorders like eczema, dermatitis, allergies, and rash.

As a topical corticosteroid, Westcort Ointment exhibits anti-inflammatory, antipruritic, and vasoconstrictive qualities. Although the precise mechanism of its anti-inflammatory effect is not fully understood, it is thought to impede the production of prostaglandins, a natural pain and inflammation mediators in the body.

Uses and Dosage

Before starting treatment with Westcort Ointment and with every prescription refill, carefully review the medication guide and patient information leaflet given by your pharmacist. For any questions or concerns, consult your doctor or pharmacist.

Westcort Ointment is intended for external use only.

Typically, this ointment is applied twice or thrice a day to the affected skin areas depending on the severity of the condition.

To properly use Westcort Ointment, follow these steps:

  1. Prior to applying the ointment, ensure your hands are clean and dry.
  2. Clean and dry the affected skin area.
  3. Apply a thin layer of the ointment to the affected area and gently massage it in, following your doctor’s instructions.
    • Unless advised otherwise by your doctor, refrain from bandaging, covering, or wrapping the treated area.
  4. After application, wash your hands unless you are using this medication specifically for your hands.

Use caution when applying the ointment near the eyes to prevent it from entering and potentially worsening or causing glaucoma. Similarly, refrain from contact with the nose or mouth. If accidental contact occurs in these areas, promptly rinse with plenty of water.

Do not apply this ointment on open wounds, burns, or injured or inflamed skin unless directed by your doctor.

Refrain from using Westcort Ointment in diaper areas as the use of diapers or plastic pants can result in occlusive dressings.

Consult your doctor before applying this ointment to your face, underarm, or groin areas.

To ensure optimal results, use Westcort Ointment regularly, exactly as directed. Refrain from exceeding the recommended dosage or extending the duration of application beyond what is advised.

Once control is achieved, discontinue the use of Westcort Ointment. If there is no improvement within 2 weeks, inform your doctor.
