Plendil is a prescription medicine indicated for the treatment of hypertension (high blood pressure).  

By effectively lowering blood pressure, this medication aids in decreasing the risk of fatal and nonfatal cardiovascular events, primarily strokes and myocardial infarctions. 

As a calcium channel blocker, Plendil functions by inducing relaxation and dilation of the blood vessels, facilitating improved blood flow throughout the system. 

Uses and Dosage

Side Effects

Common Side Effects 

• Headache, dizziness, drowsiness, or weakness 
• Restlessness or nervousness 
• Nausea, upset stomach, constipation, diarrhea, or stomach pain 
• Sleep problems, such as insomnia 
• Joint pain or muscle cramps 
• A sensation of warmth, redness, or tingling under the skin 
• Mild rash 
• Increased frequency of urination 
• Cold symptoms, including: 
  • Stuffy nose 
  • Sneezing 
  • Sore throat 

Serious Side Effects 

• Sensation of potential fainting 
• Shortness of breath or swelling in hands or feet 
• Rapid or pounding heartbeats 
• Numbness or tingling sensation 
• Chest pain or heaviness, pain radiating to the arm or shoulder, accompanied by nausea, sweating, and overall discomfort 

Call your doctor immediately if you experience any of the severe side effects listed above. 

Allergic Reactions 

Although rare, a severe allergic reaction to Plendil may occur. Seek prompt medical assistance if any signs of a severe allergic reaction are observed, such as: 

• Hives 
• Difficulty breathing 
• Swelling (face, lips, tongue, or throat)

Cautions 

Before starting treatment with Plendil, inform your doctor of any known allergies, particularly to felodipine or other medications. 

Consult your pharmacist for additional information, as Plendil may contain inactive substances that can potentially trigger allergies or other complications. 

To ensure Plendil is safe for you, disclose to your physician your medical background, especially if you have a history of: 

• Heart disease (including heart failure) 
• Liver disease 
• Swelling of the arms and legs (edema) 

Inform all your healthcare providers about any current or newly initiated or discontinued medications, including prescription and non-prescription drugs, vitamins, and herbal supplements, to lower the risk of drug interaction with Plendil. 

Plendil’s effectiveness may be influenced by other drugs that impact its elimination from the body, like: 

• Azole antifungals (e.g., itraconazole, ketoconazole)  
• Macrolide antibiotics (e.g., erythromycin) 

Inform your pharmacist if you are using cough-and-cold products, diet aids, or NSAIDs like ibuprofen naproxen, as certain ingredients may potentially elevate your blood pressure. Inquire about their safe usage. 

Consult your doctor regarding the potential risks of consuming grapefruit or grapefruit juice while taking Plendil. Before making any dietary changes, including increasing or decreasing grapefruit products, seek advice from your healthcare provider. 

Plendil may cause slight gum swelling but practicing good dental care can help prevent this. Maintain regular oral hygiene by brushing and flossing your teeth while using this medication.  

Plendil may cause dizziness. Refrain from driving, operating machinery, or engaging in activities requiring alertness until you can do so safely. Take caution when transitioning from sitting or lying down to avoid feeling dizzy. Rise gradually and stabilize yourself to prevent potential falls. 

The potential effects of Plendil on an unborn baby are uncertain. Inform your doctor if you are currently pregnant or intend to become pregnant while taking this medication. 

The potential transfer of felodipine into breast milk and its impact on a nursing infant is uncertain. Prior to using Plendil, inform your doctor if you are breastfeeding.
