Drug Description

Indications

Nasonex Nasal Spray is indicated to prevent and treat seasonal and year-round allergy symptoms, such as congested or runny nose, itching, and sneezing.

Nasonex Nasal Spray is also indicated for treating nasal polyps in adults, a condition characterized by inflammation and swelling of the nasal lining.

As a corticosteroid medication, Nasonex Nasal Spray functions by inhibiting the release of certain natural substances responsible for triggering allergy symptoms.

Uses and Dosage

Before using Nasonex Nasal Spray and with every prescription refill, carefully review its medication guide and patient information leaflet. Consult your doctor or pharmacist for any queries or uncertainties.

Nasonex Nasal Spray is strictly intended for nasal use. Refrain from ingesting it and exercise caution to avoid spraying it into your mouth or eyes.

The dosage of Nasonex Nasal Spray may vary per individual based on age, medical condition, and response to the treatment.

Typically, this medication is administered intranasally once or twice a day as prescribed by the doctor.

Priming the pump is necessary before using Nasonex Nasal Spray for the first time, after a week or longer without use, or after cleaning the nozzle.

To prime: Hold the spray with the applicator positioned between your index and middle fingers while your thumb supports the bottom of the bottle. Make sure the applicator is facing away from your face.

  • For first-time use, press and release the pump ten times or until a fine mist is visibly emitted.
  • If the nasal spray has been used before but not within the past week, or if the nozzle has recently been cleaned, press and release the pump twice until a fine mist is emitted.

To properly use this nasal spray, follow these steps:

  1. Ensure the bottle is thoroughly shaken before every use.
  2. Clear your nostrils by blowing your nose gently.
  3. Close one nostril by pressing it with your finger.
  4. Tilt your head slightly forward and carefully insert the nasal applicator tip into the other nostril, ensuring the bottle remains upright.
  5. Hold the pump with the applicator positioned between your index and middle fingers while your thumb supports the bottom.
  6. Begin to inhale through your nose.
  7. While inhaling, firmly press down on the applicator with your index and middle fingers to release a spray.
  8. Breathe gently through your nostril and exhale through your mouth.
  9. If your doctor instructed you to use two sprays in the same nostril, repeat steps 1 to 8.
  10. Repeat steps 1 to 9 for the other nostril.
  11. Refrain from blowing your nose within 15 minutes of using this medication.
  12. Wipe the applicator with a clean tissue after use and replace the plastic cap.

For optimal results, use Nasonex Nasal Spray consistently around the same times daily unless instructed otherwise by your physician.

To effectively prevent seasonal allergy symptoms, it may be necessary to use Nasonex Nasal Spray 2 to 4 weeks before the onset of pollen season. Consult your doctor or pharmacist regarding the potential need for additional medications, such as nose drops/sprays or oral allergy drugs, to be used in conjunction with Nasonex Nasal Spray until its full effect is achieved.

Use Nasonex Nasal Spray exactly as directed. Avoid raising the dosage or using it more frequently or longer than the prescribed duration, as it will not hasten recovery and may heighten adverse effects.

Nasonex Nasal Spray has a designated number of sprays. If the marked amount is exceeded, the remaining sprays may not have the accurate medication dosage. Monitor your usage and discard the bottle after reaching the designated number of sprays, regardless of the remaining liquid.
