Indications 

Aklief Cream is a topical medication indicated for treating acne vulgaris, a common form of acne in teens and young adults caused by overactive sebaceous glands that become plugged and inflamed. 

As a retinoid medication, Aklief Cream reduces swelling and inflammation by affecting cell growth, resulting in fewer and less severe acne pimples and faster healing of existing ones. 

Uses and Dosage 

Before using Aklief Cream and every time you get a refill, carefully read its medication guide and patient information leaflet. For any questions or concerns, consult your physician or pharmacist. 

Follow your healthcare provider’s instructions for using Aklief Cream. Typically, a thin layer is applied once daily in the evening to the affected areas as directed. 

Prior to and following the application of this cream, remember to wash your hands. 

To apply Aklief Cream: 

1. Clean and dry the area where the cream will be applied by washing and gently patting it dry. 
2. If you have a sample tube, follow your healthcare provider’s instructions on how much cream to apply. 
3. Aklief Cream comes in a pump. 
   • To apply to your face: 
     1. Press down on the pump once to dispense a small amount of cream. 
     2. Spread a thin layer over your forehead, cheeks, nose, and chin. 
     3. Avoid contact with your eyes, lips, mouth, and the corners of your nose. (If accidental eye contact occurs, rinse with ample water and seek medical attention if eye irritation persists) 
   • To apply to your upper trunk: 
     1. Press down on the pump twice to dispense enough cream to cover your upper back, shoulders, and chest with a thin layer. 
     2. You may use one more pump to apply a thin layer to your middle and lower back if acne is present. 
4. Begin applying a moisturizer on your skin as often as needed when you start using Aklief Cream. 

Aklief Cream is strictly for topical use and should not be applied to the mouth, eyes, or vagina. Do not apply it to cut, scraped, or sunburned skin, or skin affected by eczema. 

For best results, use Aklief Cream regularly around the same time daily, exactly as prescribed. Do not exceed the specified amount or frequency, as doing so will not hasten the skin’s improvement and may heighten the risk of side effects, such as redness, peeling, or discomfort. 

Side Effects 

Listed below are the side effects associated with the use of Aklief Cream. If any of these symptoms persist or worsen, tell your doctor promptly. 

Common Side Effects 

• Itching 
• Sunburn 

Serious Side Effects 

• Signs of local skin irritation during the first 4 weeks of treatment, which may decrease with continued use of the cream: 
  • Redness 
  • Scaling 
  • Dryness 
  • Stinging or burning 

Notify your healthcare provider if the symptoms listed above occur. Your doctor may advise you to reduce the frequency of Aklief Cream use, pause temporarily, or discontinue the treatment permanently. 

Allergic Reactions 

Aklief Cream rarely causes severe allergic reactions. However, get emergency medical help if you experience the following signs of an allergic reaction: 

• Rash 
• Itching or swelling, especially of the throat, tongue, and face 
• Severe dizziness 
• Trouble breathing 

This list does not contain all the potential side effects of Aklief Cream. Tell your doctor promptly if any unlisted effects are experienced. 

Cautions 

Before using Aklief Cream, inform your doctor or pharmacist if you have any known allergies, especially to trifarotene, any medications, or any ingredients present in Aklief Cream. 

To ensure Aklief Cream is safe for you, disclose to your physician your medical background, specifically regarding any history of eczema. 

Aklief Cream may interact with the following: 

• Products containing alpha hydroxy acids 
• Products containing glycolic acid 
• Hair perming solutions 
• Alcohol, lime, and menthol-containing products such as: 
• astringents 
• toners 
• shaving lotions 
• Medicated or abrasive soaps and cleansers 
• Soaps and cosmetics with a strong drying effect 

To reduce the risk of interactions, inform your healthcare provider about all the products and medications you are presently taking and using, including prescription and non-prescription medicines, dietary supplements, and herbal products. 

Exercise caution when using Aklief Cream if you recently used sulfur, resorcinol, or salicylic acid products. Wait for the effects of these products on the skin to subside before using the cream. 

During treatment with Aklief Cream, minimize exposure to sunlight and avoid using sunlamps, tanning beds, and ultraviolet light. If exposure to sunlight is necessary or if you are sensitive to sunlight, use sunscreen with an SPF of 15 or higher, along with protective clothing and a wide-brimmed hat to shield the treated areas. 

During the use of Aklief Cream, refrain from undergoing electrolysis, waxing, or using chemical depilatories for hair removal on the treated areas. 

Use Aklief Cream only if absolutely necessary during pregnancy, as it may pose a risk to the unborn baby. Consult your doctor to weigh the risks and benefits. 

Breastfeeding women should exercise caution when using Aklief Cream, as its effects on breast milk are unknown. Apply the cream on the smallest area of skin for the shortest duration necessary while breastfeeding, avoiding application to the nipple and areola to prevent contact with the baby.
