Description

Indications

Atarax (Hydroxyzine Hydrochloride), is an oral medication designed to manage itching (pruritus) caused by various allergic conditions such as histamine-mediated itching, atopic or contact dermatitis, and chronic hives.

Atarax is used to alleviate anxiety and tension symptoms related to psychoneurosis. In some cases, it may also be prescribed as a preoperative or postoperative sedative.

As a potent inverse agonist of histamine H1-receptors, Atarax functions to actively dampen the activity at these receptors, effectively managing histamine-related edema, itching, and flares. Its sedative properties occur at the subcortical level of the central nervous system (CNS) and also provide an anxiolytic effect.
