Drug Description

Indications 

The Bactroban ointment is an indicated medication for the topical management of impetigo caused by Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus) and Streptococcus pyogenes (S. pyogenes) strains that are susceptible to the drug. Bactroban Ointment falls under the class of Antibacterials, Topical. 

This medication is an antibiotic and exerts its therapeutic effect by inhibiting the growth of specific bacteria. 

The safety and efficacy of Bactroban Ointment in children under two months have not been established. 

Uses and Dosage 

Bactroban Ointment is a prescription medication for treating Impetigo, skin infections, and MRSA colonization. Bactroban Ointment can be used as monotherapy or in combination with other medicines.  

This medication should only be applied topically to the skin for proper use. Before applying, the affected area must be thoroughly cleaned and dried. Apply a small amount of ointment to the area as your physician directs, typically three times daily. If necessary, you may cover the treated area with a bandage. 

To ensure optimal therapeutic benefit, use this medication regularly. Follow the prescribed duration of use, even if symptoms have subsided after several days. Abrupt discontinuation of treatment may lead to the reappearance of the infection. 

Avoid applying this medication near your eyes, nose, mouth, or over large areas of damaged or broken skin unless otherwise instructed by your physician. In case of accidental contact with the eyes, nose, or mouth, thoroughly rinse with water.

Allergic reactions: hives; dizziness; fast or pounding heartbeats; wheezing; difficulty breathing; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat. Seek emergency medical attention immediately. 

Severe stomach pain or diarrhea that is watery or bloody. Contact your doctor right away.
