Drug Description

Indications

Emsam (selegiline) patch is a once-daily application on the skin and is prescribed for the treatment of depression in adults. It offers a viable alternative for individuals who are unable or prefer not to take oral medications. However, inform your healthcare provider about all the medications you are currently using, including prescriptions, over-the-counter drugs, and herbal supplements, as Emsam (selegiline) patch may interact with them.

Uses and Dosage

To ensure proper application of the Emsam (selegiline) patch, follow these guidelines:

Prior to applying the patch, cleanse the skin gently using soap and warm water. Afterward, dry the area with a clean towel.

The Emsam (selegiline) patch can be placed on the torso (below the neck and above the waist), upper thigh, or the outer part of the upper arm. Ensure that the chosen area of skin is dry, undamaged, and free of hair.

Apply a fresh patch every day, removing the old one beforehand since only one patch should be worn at a time. Each time you change the patch, select a different area of skin to prevent skin irritation. Apply the patch around the same time daily.

When removing the Emsam (selegiline) patch from its pouch, avoid cutting the pouch to prevent accidentally cutting the patch itself. Instead, tear the pouch open at the notches. Refrain from touching the sticky side of the patch. After applying the patch, wash your hands with soap and water to remove any medication residue before touching your eyes.

If the patch falls off, press it firmly back onto the skin. If it continues to fall off, switch to a new patch while maintaining your regular schedule for changing patches.

When removing the Emsam (selegiline) patch, do so slowly to avoid damaging the skin. If the patch proves difficult to remove, wash it with soap and water, then apply a thin layer of petroleum jelly or olive oil. This will help loosen the edges of the patch.
