Indications 

Gaviscon Advance Chewable Mint is indicated for: 

• Managing symptoms of gastroesophageal reflux, including acid regurgitation, heartburn, and indigestion, occurring after meals, during pregnancy, or in patients with esophagitis-related symptoms. 
• Alleviating symptoms associated with conditions such as hiatus hernia, hoarseness, sore throat, and cough linked to reflux. 
• Managing heartburn symptoms during or after discontinuing stomach acid-reducing medications such as proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) or H2 antagonists. 

Gaviscon Advance Chewable Mint is classified as a reflux suppressant medication, containing two active components, potassium bicarbonate and sodium alginate. These components work by creating a protective barrier over the stomach contents, preventing the escape of stomach acid into the esophagus, thus alleviating pain and discomfort. 

Uses and Dosage 

Read the accompanying patient information leaflet of Gaviscon Advance Chewable Mint before the initial use and with each refill. If any uncertainties arise, consult your pharmacist or doctor for clarification. 

Gaviscon Advance Chewable Mint is used as needed. One to two tablets can be taken after meals and before bedtime, up to four times per day. 

Thoroughly chew the tablet before swallowing, followed by a full glass of water. Avoid swallowing the tablet whole. 

For optimal results, adhere to the recommended usage of Gaviscon. Avoid exceeding the recommended dose, as consuming an excess amount may lead to bloating and potential abdominal discomfort. 

If symptoms persist beyond 7 days, seek advice from your doctor. 

Side Effects 

Gaviscon Advance Chewable Mint does not usually cause side effects. Should you experience any, consult with your doctor, pharmacist, or nurse. 

Allergic Reactions 

Rarely, Gaviscon Advance Chewable Mint may trigger an allergic reaction. Cease usage immediately and consult with your doctor if the following occur: 

• Skin rash 
• Breathing difficulties 
• Dizziness 
• Swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat

Cautions 

Do not take Gaviscon Advance Chewable Mint if you have allergies to potassium bicarbonate, sodium alginate, or any of its inactive ingredients. 

Seek advice from your doctor before taking Gaviscon Advance Chewable Mint if you have other medical conditions, particularly: 

• Limited potassium or sodium intake 
• Congestive cardiac failure 
• History of kidney stones 
• High calcium levels (hypercalcemia) 
• Kidney calcium deposits (nephrocalcinosis) 
• Phenylketonuria 
• Kidney impairment 

Consult with your doctor or pharmacist to determine the safety of taking Gaviscon Advance Chewable Mint alongside other medications, including prescription and non-prescription drugs, vitamins, and herbal supplements. 

Allow a minimum interval of 2 hours between taking Gaviscon Advance Chewable Mint and certain medications, such as: 

• Tetracyclines 
• Fluoroquinolones 
• Iron salts 
• Thyroid hormones 
• Chloroquine 
• Bisphosphonates 
• Estramustine 

Pregnant or breastfeeding women can take Gaviscon Advance Chewable Mint, but the treatment duration should be kept to a minimum.
