Indications 

Nilstat cream is used to treat fungal or yeast infections of the skin, including mucocutaneous and cutaneous mycotic infections caused by Candida albicans and other susceptible Candida. It is also used to treat fungus infections of the vagina.  

Nilstat cream is an antifungal medication that contains nystatin. It belongs to the group of medicines called antifungals. It works by stopping the growth and spread of fungal infections by binding to the fungal cell wall and preventing it from growing.  

Use and Dosage 

Nilstat Cream is intended for external use only and should not be taken by mouth. Wash your hands thoroughly before and after applying the cream, except when treating a hand infection, in which case wash your hands only prior to application. Avoid getting the cream in your eyes and if this occurs, rinse your eyes with plenty of cool tap water.  

The cream should be used as directed on the prescription label, at the same time every day, and not more frequently than directed. It is recommended that you use the medication for the full duration of the prescribed course, even if you feel better. Do not stop using the cream unless instructed to do so by your care team. 

When applying the cream, use a thin layer and cover the affected area with a sterile gauze dressing. Do not use an airtight bandage, such as a plastic-covered bandage. If you believe you have taken too much of the medication, please contact a poison control center or emergency room immediately. If you miss a dose, use it as soon as you can. If it is almost time for your next dose, use only that dose. Do not use double or extra doses.

• Difficulty breathing or swallowing 
• Rash, hives, or itching 

Serious Side Effects 

• Vaginal burning or itching not present before use of this medicine 

Cautions 

• Nystatin is available only with a doctor’s prescription. 
• Follow the instructions provided on the prescription label and use the cream as directed. 
• Nystatin is intended for external use only and should not be taken by mouth. 
• When using Nystatin, avoid getting the cream in your eyes. If this occurs, rinse your eyes with plenty of cool tap water. 
• Nilstat Cream should not be used on broken or irritated skin. 
• Continue using Nilstat Cream for the full course of treatment, even if symptoms improve or disappear before the treatment is completed. 
• If the symptoms do not improve after using the cream for several days, or if they worsen, stop using the cream and contact your healthcare professional. 
• Nystatin may interact with other medications, so inform your healthcare professional of any other medications you are taking.
