Description

Indications

Norvasc, known by its generic name Amlodipine, is an orally-administered prescription medication used for the treatment of hypertension and certain cardiovascular diseases.

Amlodipine, the primary ingredient, belongs to a class of drugs called calcium channel blockers that are commonly used to treat high blood pressure, coronary artery disease, and angina. The medicine helps to lower blood pressure, which can prevent heart attacks, strokes, and renal diseases.

Patients treated with this medicine have experienced an improvement in their ability to exercise and a decrease in chest pains. This medicine is not meant to provide immediate relief during an angina attack, and a doctor may prescribe other medicines for that purpose.

Uses and Dosage

Prior to commencing the use of amlodipine, consult the Patient Information Leaflet from your pharmacist if available. Any concerns can be addressed by your doctor or pharmacist.

Take this medication orally, once per day, with or without food, as directed by your doctor.

The appropriate dosage is determined by your medical condition and how your body responds to treatment. Your doctor may gradually increase your dose. Adhere to your doctor’s instructions.

To maximize the benefits of this medication, use it regularly. To aid in your recollection, consume it at the same time daily. Continue to take this medication even if you feel well. Most people with high blood pressure do not experience symptoms.

For angina, this medication must be consumed regularly to be effective. Do not take it to treat an angina attack. Use other medications (such as sublingual nitroglycerin) to alleviate angina attack symptoms as instructed by your doctor. Consult your doctor or pharmacist for more information.

Notify your doctor if your condition does not improve or worsens, such as if your blood pressure readings remain high or increase, chest pain persists, or worsens.
