Indications 

Polysporin Original Antibiotic Ointment is used to prevent infection and facilitate the healing of minor cuts, scrapes, and burns. 

Containing a combination of antibiotics (bacitracin zinc and polymyxin b sulfate), this ointment works by hindering bacterial growth and forms a protective coating for infection prevention and accelerated healing. 

Uses and Dosage 

Read the information on the packaging of Polysporin Original Antibiotic Ointment before the initial use, and each time you get a refill. If you have questions, consult your doctor or pharmacist for guidance. 

Polysporin Original Antibiotic Ointment is intended for skin use only. Avoid contact with eyes or mouth; if accidental exposure occurs, wipe off the ointment and rinse thoroughly with water. 

This ointment is usually applied to the affected skin 1 to 3 times daily as needed or as directed by a doctor. 

For proper application: 

1. Begin by washing your hands. 
2. Clean and dry the affected area. 
3. Apply a small amount of the ointment in a thin layer on the skin. 
   • Treated areas may be covered with a sterile bandage. 
4. Wash your hands after application. 

Avoid applying excessive amounts of this ointment, using it more frequently, or extending its use beyond the recommended duration. Doing so may not expedite the improvement of your condition and could elevate the likelihood of experiencing side effects. 

Should your symptoms persist or deteriorate after 7 days, or if you suspect a serious medical issue, reach out to your doctor without delay.

Common Side Effects 

• Skin burning, redness, or irritation 

Inform your doctor if these common side effects continue or worsen. 

Serious Side Effects 

• Balance or hearing problems  
• Presence of small red skin bumps (folliculitis) 

Inform your doctor immediately if any of the serious side effects occur. 

In rare cases, extended or repeated use of Polysporin Original Antibiotic Ointment may lead to a fungal or other bacterial skin infection. Consult your doctor if you observe any new, unusual skin symptoms (like scaling, swelling, or hot skin) during the use of this ointment. It may be necessary to switch to a different medication. 

Allergic Reactions 

A severe allergic reaction to Polysporin Original Antibiotic Ointment is uncommon; however, seek immediate medical help if you experience signs such as: 

• Hives 
• Swelling or itching (especially of the face, tongue, or throat) 
• Difficulty breathing 
• Severe dizziness

Cautions

• Have a deep or puncture wounds 
• Have animal bites 
• Have serious burns 
• Are pregnant  
• Are breastfeeding
