Drug Description

Indications

Viibryd is indicated for the treatment of depression. This medication belongs to a class of drugs called selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) and partial serotonin receptor agonists.

It exerts its therapeutic effect by normalizing the balance of neurotransmitters, such as serotonin, in the brain. Viibryd is known to improve mood, appetite, sleep, energy levels, and restore the enjoyment of daily activities.

Uses and Dosage

Before taking vilazodone, read the Medication Guide provided by your pharmacist carefully. If you have any questions, seek clarification from your doctor or pharmacist.

This medication should be taken by mouth with food as directed by your doctor, usually once daily. Your dosage will depend on your medical condition, response to treatment, and other medications you may be taking. Be sure to inform your doctor and pharmacist of all the products you use, including prescription drugs, nonprescription drugs, and herbal products.

To minimize the risk of side effects, your doctor may start you at a low dose and gradually increase it. Follow your doctor’s instructions carefully. Do not take more or less medication or take it more frequently than prescribed, as doing so may increase your risk of side effects without improving your condition.

For maximum benefit, use this medication regularly at the same time every day. If you suddenly stop using this medication, you may experience withdrawal symptoms such as mood swings, headache, tiredness, sleep changes, ringing in the ears, seizures, numbness/tingling, and “shock-like” feelings.

To minimize the risk of withdrawal, your doctor may reduce your dose gradually, particularly if you have used vilazodone for an extended period or in high doses. If you experience withdrawal symptoms, contact your doctor or pharmacist immediately.

  • Seizures: Like other antidepressants, Viibryd may elevate the risk of seizures. Inform your doctor of your seizure history before initiating Viibryd treatment.
  • Glaucoma: If you have untreated angle-closure glaucoma, taking Viibryd may abruptly trigger glaucoma symptoms. Your healthcare provider may recommend alternative treatments for major depressive disorder.
