Imdur belongs to the class of drugs known as anti-anginals. Imdur and generic isosorbide mononitrate are used to prevent angina attacks that are associated with coronary artery disease; however, Imdur is not useful for immediate relief of an acute angina attack. Imdur works by relaxing the blood vessels supplying the heart thereby increasing the amount of blood and oxygen reaching the heart. Imdur and generic isosorbide mononitrate have been shown to reduce the number, length, and severity of angina attacks.

Some common side effects of Imdur include headache, mild dizziness, redness or tingling under the skin, nausea, vomiting, constipation, diarrhea, muscle or joint pain or stiffness, hot flashes, or dry mouth.
Some serious side effects of Imdur include irregular heart rate, faintness, difficulty breathing, blue-colored skin, fatigue, or worsening angina pain.

Isosorbide mononitrate, the generic product is not produced by the same company that makes the brand drug (Imdur).
