Drug Description

Indications

Effient is a prescription medicine administered in conjunction with aspirin to patients with heart disease, such as those who have recently suffered a heart attack or have unstable angina, and who undergo a specific heart procedure known as angioplasty.

Belonging to the anti-platelet medication class, it reduces the risk of additional severe heart and blood vessel issues, including heart attacks, strokes, and the formation of blood clots in stents.

Effient mechanism of action involves inhibiting platelet aggregation and preventing the formation of dangerous blood clots. By exerting an “anti-platelet” effect, Effient helps to maintain smooth blood flow throughout the body.

Uses and Dosage

Before taking Effient and with each subsequent refill, thoroughly review its patient information leaflet and medication guide. For any questions or clarifications, consult your doctor or pharmacist.

Effient dosage may vary based on the individual’s medical condition, weight, and response to the treatment. Usually, it is taken once a day with or without food and should be swallowed whole not divided, chewed, or crushed.

For optimal results, take Effient regularly at the same time of the day daily. Follow how it is prescribed and refrain from altering the dosage, frequency, or duration of use unless directed to do so by a physician.

Effient can prevent severe heart and blood vessel complications, but only when taken as directed. Do not stop intake without consulting a doctor as abrupt cessation may increase the risk of heart attack, blood clot formation, or mortality.
