Indications 

Imdur is a prescription medicine used to prevent angina (chest pain) in patients diagnosed with coronary artery disease, a condition characterized by constriction of the blood vessels that deliver blood to the heart. 

Classified as a nitrate drug, Imdur functions by relaxing and expanding blood vessels, enabling a more effortless flow of blood to the heart. 

Imdur can be used alone or in conjunction with other medication. However, it is not intended to alleviate chest pain after it has already occurred, nor is it recommended for use as a preventive measure just before engaging in physical activities to avoid chest pain. 

Uses and Dosage 

Before taking Imdur and every time you get a refill, thoroughly review its medication guide and patient information leaflet. Consult with a physician or pharmacist for any uncertainties or questions. 

The dosage of Imdur is based on an individual’s overall health condition and response to treatment.  

Typically, Imdur is administered once daily, in the morning after awakening. The extend-release tablets should be taken as a whole with a half-glass of water and must not be crushed, cut, or chewed. 

Take Imdur precisely as directed by your healthcare provider. Do not exceed or reduce the dose or take it more frequently than prescribed. 

For optimal results, take Imdur regularly around the same time daily. Consult your doctor before discontinuing the medication, as abruptly stopping it may exacerbate certain conditions. Your doctor may need to gradually lower your dosage. 

Side Effects 

Potential side effects associated with the use of Imdur are listed below. If any of them last or worsen, promptly inform your physician or pharmacist. 

Common Side Effects 

• Headache 
• Flushing (warmth, redness, or tingling sensation) 

Serious Side Effects 

• Feeling light-headed, potentially leading to fainting 
• Exacerbation of angina pain 
• Fast or slow heart rate 
• Pounding heartbeats or fluttering in the chest 

Call your doctor right away if you experience any of the serious side effects listed above. 

Imdur may cause severe headaches, which may subside over time with continued use. Do not discontinue this medication to alleviate headaches. Consult your doctor before taking any headache pain medication. 

Allergic Reactions 

Although rare, a severe allergic reaction to Imdur may occur. If you experience any of the following symptoms below, seek immediate medical attention. 

• Rash 
• Itching or swelling, especially in the areas of the face, tongue, or throat 
• Severe dizziness 
• Difficulty breathing 

The side effects of Imdur listed here are incomplete. If any unmentioned side effects arise and cause discomfort, inform your doctor promptly. 

Cautions 

Before taking Imdur, inform your physician or pharmacist if you have any known hypersensitivities, especially to isosorbide mononitrate, isosorbide dinitrate, nitroglycerin, or any other medications. 

Consult your pharmacist for additional information, as this medication may contain inactive ingredients that could potentially trigger allergic reactions or other complications. 

To determine whether Imdur is safe for you, disclose your medical history to your doctor, particularly of: 

• Hypotension (low blood pressure) 
• Congestive heart failure 
• Kidney disease 

Drugs used to treat erectile dysfunction (ED) or pulmonary hypertension (e.g., sildenafil, tadalafil), as well as riociguat may interact with Imdur. 

To avoid such drug interactions, inform your doctor and pharmacist about all the medications you are taking, including prescription and non-prescription drugs, as well as any vitamins, supplements, or herbal products. 

Be mindful to tell your doctor and pharmacist if you are taking the following products listed below as some of them may contain ingredients that could worsen heart failure. Seek advice on how to use them safely. 

• Cough-and-cold products 
• Diet aids 
• NSAIDs such as ibuprofen/naproxen 

Refrain from using medications that contain isosorbide dinitrate while taking isosorbide mononitrate, as the two drugs are very similar in nature. 

Before any laboratory tests, inform all medical professionals and laboratory personnel that you are taking Imdur as it may affect certain tests (including cholesterol levels) and lead to inaccurate results. 

Imdur may cause drowsiness or dizziness. Exercise caution when driving or performing tasks that require attentiveness. To prevent falls, get up gradually from a seated or lying position. 

Pregnant women should consider the risks and benefits of using Imdur and use it only when necessary. 

The potential for isosorbide mononitrate to pass into breast milk or affect a nursing baby is unknown. Consult your doctor before breastfeeding.
