Drug Description

Indications

Lovaza is a prescription medication comprising eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), which are omega-3 fatty acids. It is used along with a healthy diet to lower the levels of a type of fat called triglycerides in adults who have very high levels of this fat in their blood (hypertriglyceridemia).

Lovaza belongs to the class of drugs called lipid-regulating agents and is believed to function by reducing the synthesis of triglycerides and other lipids in the liver.

Uses and Dosage

Before taking Lovaza and every time you get a refill, thoroughly review its medication guide and patient information leaflet. Do not hesitate to seek advice from your doctor or pharmacist for any questions or concerns.

Lovaza’s dosage may vary per individual based on their medical condition and response to the treatment.

Typically, Lovaza is administered at a daily dosage of 4 grams, which can be taken either as a single 4-gram dose (4 capsules) or as two 2-gram doses (2 capsules twice daily). Swallow the capsules whole and refrain from breaking, crushing, dissolving, or chewing them.

Take Lovaza regularly around the same time daily, exactly as directed. Do not modify the dosage or frequency of administration without your doctor’s consent.

Continue taking Lovaza even if you feel well, as most people with high triglycerides do not experience symptoms. It may take up to 2 months to notice Lovaza’s full therapeutic effects.
