Indications 

Xiidra Ophthalmic Solution is a prescription medicine indicated for the treatment of the signs and symptoms of dry eye disease (DED). 

Xiidra Ophthalmic Solution falls under the category of drugs known as lymphocyte function-associated antigen-1 (LFA-1) antagonists. Its precise mechanism of action in treating dry eye disease remains unclear, but it is thought to aid in mitigating inflammation in the eye tissues. 

Uses and Dosage 

Before using Xiidra Ophthalmic Solution and with every prescription refill, carefully review the accompanying medication guide and patient information leaflet. Consult your doctor or pharmacist if you have any questions or concerns. 

Xiidra Ophthalmic Solution comes in single-use containers, which are enclosed in a foil pouch. Refrain from removing it from the foil pouch until it is time for application. 

Typically, one drop of Xiidra Ophthalmic Solution is instilled in each eye twice daily (morning and evening, approximately 12 hours apart), as prescribed by the doctor. 

To ensure proper usage of this eye drop, follow these steps: 

1. Begin by washing your hands thoroughly before applying the eye drops. 
2. If you wear contact lenses, remove them before applying the eye drop and reinsert them after 15 minutes. 
3. Hold the single-use container in an upright position and open it by twisting off the tab.  
   • Ensure that the container’s tip does not come into contact with any surfaces to prevent contamination. 
4. Tilt your head backward; if this is not possible, lie down comfortably. 
5. Gently pull your lower eyelid downward and look upward. 
6. Position the tip of the single-use container near your eye, taking care not to touch your eye with it. 
7. Gently squeeze the single-use container, allowing one drop to fall into the space between your lower eyelid and your eye.  
   • If a drop misses your eye, repeat the process. 
8. Repeat steps 4 through 7 for your other eye, noting that one single-use container contains enough medication for both eyes. 
9. After application, dispose of the opened single-use container and its remaining solution; refrain from keeping it for future use. 

For optimal results, use Xiidra Ophthalmic Solution regularly, exactly as directed, and at the same times each day. Refrain from using more of it or applying it more frequently than prescribed. 

Inform your doctor if your condition persists or deteriorates. 

Side Effects 

Listed below are the potential adverse effects of Xiidra Ophthalmic Solution. Notify your doctor if any of these symptoms persist or worsen. 

Common Side Effects 

• Blurred vision 
• Eye discomfort 
• Eye irritation 
• Unusual or unpleasant taste in the mouth 

Serious Side Effects 

• Vision problems 
• Severe eye redness or irritation 

Stop using Xiidra Ophthalmic Solution and call your doctor at once if you experience any of the severe symptoms above. 

Allergic Reactions 

In rare cases, Xiidra Ophthalmic Solution may trigger a serious allergic response. Seek immediate medical assistance if you observe any indications of an allergic reaction, such as: 

• Hives 
• Face, lips, tongue, or throat swelling 
• Difficulty in breathing

Cautions

Following the application of this eyedrop, temporary vision blurring may occur. Avoid driving, operating machinery, or engaging in tasks requiring clear vision until it is safe to do so. 

Inform your doctor if you are pregnant or intend to become pregnant before using Xiidra Ophthalmic Solution, as it is uncertain whether it could potentially harm your unborn child. 

The transfer of lifitegrast into breast milk is uncertain. Prior to breastfeeding, seek guidance from your doctor.
