Indications

Zetonna Nasal Aerosol is a medication used to treat nasal symptoms associated with allergic rhinitis, which is inflammation of the lining of the nose caused by allergies.

The active ingredient in Zetonna is ciclesonide, which is a corticosteroid. When sprayed into the nose, Zetonna helps reduce inflammation in the nasal passages, relieving symptoms such as congestion, sneezing, and a runny or itchy nose.

Use and Dosage

Zetonna is available in a metered-dose nasal aerosol form and is typically used once a day with one spray in each nostril. It should be administered in the nose as directed by your doctor, usually once a day in both nostrils.

Gently shake the bottle and prime it with 3 sprays into the air, away from your face. With your head upright insert the tip of bottle into the nostril and press your other nostril closed. Breathe in and spray the medicine into your nose. Use in your other nostril if directed. If the spray gets in your eyes or mouth or on your skin, rinse with water. Do not blow your nose for a few minutes. Do not use more than 1 spray in each nostril daily, as it may increase the risk of side effects.

After priming the canister, it should only contain 60 doses or sprays. Do not wash or put any part of the Zetonna nasal spray in water. However, if the nasal spray has not been used for more than 10 days, it should be primed again.

Cautions

  • Adrenal insufficiency: Prolonged use of corticosteroids, including Ciclesonide, may suppress the function of the adrenal glands, leading to adrenal insufficiency. If you experience symptoms such as fatigue, weakness, weight loss, or low blood pressure, contact your healthcare professional.
  • Age-related liver, kidney, or heart problems: Individuals who have age-related liver, kidney, or heart problems may be more susceptible to the side effects of ciclesonide nasal spray.
  • Drug interactions: inform your healthcare professional about all medications, including prescription and over-the-counter drugs, as well as any supplements or herbal products that you are taking. They can provide guidance on potential interactions with Zetonna Nasal Aerosol.
  • Glaucoma and cataracts: Prolonged use of corticosteroids, including Ciclesonide, may increase the risk of developing glaucoma or cataracts. Regular eye exams are recommended, especially in individuals with a family history of glaucoma or cataracts, to monitor eye health.
  • Hypersensitivity: Ciclesonide should not be used by individuals with a known hypersensitivity or allergy to ciclesonide or any of the ingredients in the medication.
  • Immunosuppression: Corticosteroids can suppress the immune system, making individuals more susceptible to infections. If you have a weakened immune system, such as due to HIV/AIDS, organ transplant, or certain medical conditions, consult your healthcare professional before using Ciclesonide.
  • Infections: Zetonna Nasal Aerosol may increase the risk of developing or worsening infections. Avoid contact with individuals who have contagious diseases like measles or chickenpox. If you develop any signs of infection, such as fever, persistent sore throat, or nasal congestion, contact your healthcare professional.
  • Pregnancy and breastfeeding: The safety of Zetonna Nasal Aerosol during pregnancy and breastfeeding has not been established. Consult a healthcare professional before using the medication if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding.
