Drug Description

Indications

BD Disposable Syringes with Luer-Lok Tips are designed for single-use and do not come with a needle. They feature a clear barrel made of polycarbonate or polypropylene, which allows for easy visibility of the contents and has bold scale markings for accurate measurement. The syringes have a unique integrated BD Luer-Lok tip, which provides a secure connection and helps to avoid potential needle disengagement, medication leakage, or spray.

The BD Disposable Syringes with Luer-Lok Tips have a volume of 1mL (1 milliliter) and are sterile. They are latex-free and have a shelf-life of 1825 days (approximately 5 years).

The syringes also have a tapered plunger rod, which allows for ease of aspiration during the medication administration process. They are designed with a positive plunger rod stop to prevent accidental dislodgement or movement of the plunger. The added BD Luer-Lok thread further enhances the secure connection between the syringe and other compatible devices.

Use and Dosage

To use BD Disposable Syringes with Luer-Lok Tips in 1mL, follow these general steps:

  1. Prepare: Ensure that you have a sterile and unopened syringe. Check the packaging to confirm the syringe’s sterility and expiration date. Gather the necessary medication or solution, needle (if required), and any other supplies.
  2. Wash hands: Thoroughly wash your hands with soap and water before handling the syringe and any other equipment.
  3. Attach the needle: If using a needle, carefully remove the needle from its packaging. Remove the needle cover, being cautious not to touch the needle or contaminate it. Attach the needle securely to the Luer-Lok tip of the syringe by twisting it clockwise until it is tightly fixed. Take care to avoid accidental needlesticks.
  4. Aspiration: If you need to draw medication or solution into the syringe, ensure the plunger is pushed all the way down. Insert the needle into the medication vial or other appropriate container. Slowly pull back on the plunger to draw the desired amount of medication into the syringe. Avoid forcefully pulling back on the plunger to prevent creating bubbles or splashing.
  5. Remove air bubbles: To remove air bubbles from the syringe, gently tap the barrel to move any bubbles to the top. Slowly push the plunger up to expel the air. Make sure the syringe contains only the desired amount of medication without any air bubbles.
  6. Administer medication: Position the needle at the desired injection site on the patient’s body. Slowly and steadily depress the plunger to administer the medication. Follow the appropriate injection technique based on the medication, route of administration, and healthcare professional’s instructions.

After use, dispose of the syringe and needle in a sharps container according to local regulations and guidelines for medical waste disposal. Do not recap the needle or dispose of used syringes in regular household waste.

Cautions

  • Single-use: BD Disposable Syringes with Luer-Lok Tips are designed for single-use only and should not be reused. Reusing syringes can lead to contamination, infection, or inaccurate dosing.
  • Needle compatibility: These syringes do not come with a needle. Ensure that you are using compatible needles or infusion sets designed specifically for use with Luer-Lok syringes.
  • Proper storage: Store syringes in a clean, dry place, away from direct sunlight, extreme temperatures, or chemicals that may compromise their integrity.
  • Proper disposal: After use, dispose of the syringes in accordance with local regulations and guidelines for medical waste disposal. Do not dispose of used syringes in regular household waste.
  • Check for defects: Before use, visually inspect the syringe for any signs of damage, defects, or tampering. Do not use a syringe if it appears to be damaged or compromised.
  • Follow healthcare professional’s instructions: Always consult with a healthcare professional or follow the instructions provided by the manufacturer for proper usage, including medication administration, handling, and disposal.
