Description

Indications

Fluticasone is prescribed to manage and prevent asthma symptoms, including wheezing and shortness of breath. Its mechanism of action involves reducing airway inflammation and swelling in the lungs, facilitating easier breathing. By effectively controlling asthma symptoms, this medication enables individuals to maintain their regular activities and minimize absenteeism from work or school.

Fluticasone belongs to the class of corticosteroids, known for their therapeutic effects. Utilize this medication regularly for optimal results, as its efficacy is not immediate. However, fluticasone should not be used to alleviate sudden asthma attacks. In the event of an asthma attack, the prescribed quick-relief inhaler, such as albuterol (referred to as salbutamol in some countries), should be promptly employed.

Uses and Dosage

For adult and adolescent patients aged 12 years and older, the initial dosage is determined based on their previous asthma treatment and the severity of the condition. This includes an assessment of their current control over asthma symptoms and the likelihood of future exacerbations. In cases where patients are not receiving inhaled corticosteroids, the recommended starting dosage is 100 mcg administered twice daily, with an interval of approximately 12 hours.

Higher dosages may be prescribed to enhance asthma control for patients already on other treatments or those who do not achieve satisfactory results with the initial dosage after two weeks of therapy. The maximum recommended dosage for patients 12 years and older is 1,000 mcg twice daily.
