Drug Description

Indications

Asmanex, alternatively referred to as Asmanex Twisthaler, is a prescription medication used to prevent asthma attacks and manage asthma symptoms in patients who are four years of age or older.

As a corticosteroid, Asmanex mitigates airway inflammation and irritation, improving respiratory function.

Asmanex is not intended for the immediate relief of sudden asthma attacks and should not be utilized for this purpose. In the case of an asthma attack, a quick-relief inhaler should be used as directed.

Uses and Dosage

Before using Asmanex and with each prescription refill, carefully read its medication guide and patient information leaflet. Do not hesitate to seek guidance from your physician or pharmacist for questions or clarifications.

Asmanex dosage is determined based on the patient’s medical condition, age, and response to the treatment. Typically, it is inhaled once daily in the evening or twice daily.

To properly use Asmanex inhaler, follow these steps:

  1. When using a new inhaler for the first time, remove it from the foil pouch and record the opening date on the label space provided on the cap.
  2. Hold the inhaler upright with the colored base facing downwards, then unscrew the white cap counterclockwise to load the appropriate amount of medication in the inhaler base. Ensure to turn the cap instead of the base, and the dose counter will decrease by one while taking off the cap, displaying the remaining number of doses.
  3. Breathe out fully.
  4. Hold the inhaler with the mouthpiece facing you, then place it horizontally in your mouth and ensure that the ventilation holes on the sides of the inhaler are not covered.
  5. Close your lips firmly around the mouthpiece and take a fast, deep breath. The fine powder medication may not be felt or tasted after inhalation.
  6. Remove the inhaler from your mouth and hold your breath for about 10 seconds or as long as you comfortably can. Do not breathe out (exhale) into the inhaler.
  7. Wipe the mouthpiece dry, if necessary, put the cap back onto the inhaler, and turn it clockwise while gently pressing down until it clicks to ensure the next dose is loaded correctly.
  8. Rinse your mouth with water and spit it out after using the inhaler, do not swallow.

If two inhalations are prescribed, allow a minimum interval of one minute between each puff. If multiple inhalers are being used concurrently, wait at least one minute between the use of each medication, and administer the corticosteroid inhaler last.

If an oral steroid medication is concurrently employed, do not terminate usage abruptly. Comply with your physician’s instructions on gradually reducing the dose.

For optimal benefits, use Asmanex regularly at evenly spaced intervals and at the same time(s) each day. Avoid increasing the dose, using the medication more frequently, or discontinuing its use without prior consultation with a doctor.
