Indications
Celebrex is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) that functions by reducing the levels of hormones responsible for causing pain and inflammation within the body.
This medication is indicated for the management of pain and inflammation caused by several conditions, including but not limited to arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, and menstrual pain.
Celebrex is utilized in the treatment of juvenile rheumatoid arthritis in children aged 2 years and older, and is also indicated for the treatment of hereditary polyps in the colon.
Uses and Dosage
The administration of Celebrex must be in accordance with the prescription provided by your physician. Adhere to all instructions listed on the medication label and to thoroughly read all medication guides.
The objective is to utilize the minimum dose that is capable of effectively treating the condition.
The administration of Celebrex can be done with or without food. In the event that swallowing a capsule whole is not feasible, it can be opened and the contents can be sprinkled into a spoonful of applesauce before being consumed with water.
The applesauce mixture can be stored in a refrigerator for up to 6 hours for future use. The storage of Celebrex must take place at room temperature, protected from exposure to moisture and heat.

In most cases, the above side effects are mild and will subside on their own.
Severe Side Effects
- Hypertension or high blood pressure
- Severe headache
- Pain or swelling of the groin/calf
- Changes in urine output or difficulty urinating (indicating kidney problems)
- Swelling of the lower extremities, sudden weight gain, and unusual tiredness (indicating heart failure)
- Severe abdominal pain, persistent nausea and vomiting, loss of appetite, yellowish skin, and dark urine (indicating liver damage)
If you experience any of the above adverse reactions, stop taking Celebrex and seek medical attention immediately. This list is not exhaustive and there may be other potential side effects associated with the use of Celebrex.
Caution
Prior to administration of Celebrex, Important to provide a comprehensive medical history to your healthcare provider, which should include:

- Gastrointestinal problems
- Liver disease
- Kidney problems
- Heart disease
- Hypertension
- Blood disorders
- Nasal polyps
- Stroke
This information is important as it may impact the way the body responds to the medication.
- Information about all prescription and non-prescription medications being taken, as Celebrex may interact with these drugs.
- Be vigilant for allergic reactions to celecoxib or other components of Celebrex. Do not use it if you have a known allergy to celecoxib, aspirin, ibuprofen, other NSAIDs or any of its inactive ingredients. If signs of hypersensitivity occur, such as difficulty breathing, severe dizziness, swelling of the face, hives, or skin rashes, discontinue use and seek emergency medical attention.
- Adequate fluid intake, such as water, is important as celecoxib may cause kidney problems, particularly in cases of dehydration or underlying kidney or heart disease. If changes in urine output are noticed, immediately inform your healthcare provider.
- Limit alcohol consumption to reduce the risk of stomach bleeding. Smoking or using tobacco should be avoided as they increase the risk of bleeding.
- Children using Celebrex for juvenile rheumatoid arthritis should exercise caution as the drug may cause severe bleeding or clotting problems such as disseminated intravascular coagulation. Watch for easy bruising and unusual bleeding.
- Pregnant women or those planning to become pregnant should avoid Celebrex as it may pose a risk to unborn babies. The potential benefits must outweigh potential risks.
