Indications 

This medication is prescribed for treating seizure disorders, mental/mood conditions (such as the manic phase of bipolar disorder), and the prevention of migraine headaches. Its mechanism of action involves restoring the balance of specific natural substances (neurotransmitters) in the brain. 

Uses and Dosage 

Follow your doctor’s instructions and take this medication orally. If you experience stomach upset, you may take it with food. You can swallow the medication whole or open the capsule and sprinkle the contents onto a small amount of soft food, such as applesauce or pudding. After taking the sprinkle and food mixture, drink water to ensure all the sprinkles are swallowed. If any contents are spilled, discard them and start with a new capsule and another portion of food. The entire drug/food mixture should be swallowed immediately without chewing. Do not save it for later use. 

The dosage of this medication is determined based on factors such as your age, weight, medical condition, response to treatment, and other medications you may be using. Inform your doctor and pharmacist about all the products you are using, including prescription drugs, over-the-counter drugs, and herbal products. To derive the maximum benefit from this medication, use it regularly. Remember to take it simultaneously each day to maintain a constant level of the medicine in your bloodstream. 

If you use this medication for seizures, do not discontinue it without consulting your doctor. Suddenly stopping the drug may worsen your condition. Your doctor may need to reduce your dose gradually. 

Side Effects 

Seek immediate medical assistance if you experience signs of an allergic reaction, such as:  

• Hives 
• Difficulty breathing 
• Swelling in your face or throat 
• Severe skin reaction accompanied by symptoms like:  
  • Fever 
  • Sore throat 
  • Burning eyes 
  • Skin pain 
  • Red or purple skin rash with blistering and peeling 

Contact your doctor right away if the person taking this medication shows signs of liver or pancreas problems. These signs may include: 

• Loss of appetite 
• Upper stomach pain that may radiate to the back 
• Ongoing nausea or vomiting 
• Dark urine 
• Facial swelling 
• Jaundice (yellowing of the skin or eyes) 

Report any new or worsening symptoms to your doctor. These symptoms may include: 

• Mood or behavior changes 
• Depression 
• Anxiety 
• Panic attacks 
• Trouble sleeping 
• Impulsivity 
• Irritability 
• Agitation 
• Hostility 
• Aggression 
• Restlessness 
• Hyperactivity (mentally or physically) 
• Thoughts of suicide or self-harm 

Cautions 

Depakote Sprinkles is a medication available in different pill forms and is used for various purposes. 

Depakote Sprinkles tablets and capsules are prescribed to treat seizures in individuals aged ten and above with epilepsy. Sometimes, these tablets are used in combination with other seizure medications. 

Depakote Sprinkles tablets are used in adults to prevent migraine headaches and manage manic episodes associated with bipolar disorder (manic depression).
