Drug Description

Indications

QNASL Nasal Aerosol is a prescription medication used to treat seasonal and year-round allergy symptoms in patients. It provides relief from symptoms such as congestion, sneezing, itching, and a runny nose.

QNASL is a nonaqueous nasal spray solution containing beclomethasone dipropionate as the active ingredient, which is a corticosteroid. Each actuation delivers a specific dosage of beclomethasone dipropionate. QNASL is typically used once daily for 24-hour relief of nasal allergy symptoms.

QNASL Nasal Aerosol works by reducing inflammation and swelling in the nasal passages. When the medication is sprayed into the nose, it delivers a fine mist of beclomethasone dipropionate. The medication then acts locally to reduce the allergic response in the nasal tissues.

Use and Dosage

Carefully read the patient information leaflet that comes with the medication. To provide accurate and up-to-date information on how to use QNASL Nasal Spray. Here is a summary of the steps involved in using QNASL Nasal Spray:

  1. Preparation: Before using the QNASL Nasal Spray, remove the cap and shake the bottle gently.
  2. Blow your nose: Gently blow your nose to clear your nasal passages before using the nasal spray.
  3. Prime the device: If it is your first time using the nasal spray or if you have not used it for a while, you may need to prime the device. Follow the specific instructions provided with the medication for priming.
  4. Position the device: Hold the nasal spray bottle with your index and middle fingers on the collar and your thumb underneath the bottle.
  5. Tilt your head: Tilt your head slightly forward.
  6. Insert the nozzle: Carefully insert the nozzle into one nostril, aiming it towards the back of your nose.
  7. Breathe and spray: While aiming the nozzle towards the back of your nose, breathe in gently through your nose and press down on the collar to release the spray. Breathe out through your mouth.
  8. Repeat for the other nostril: Repeat steps 7 and 8 for the other nostril.
  9. Avoid sniffing or blowing your nose: Try to avoid sniffing or blowing your nose immediately after using the nasal spray to allow the medication to work effectively.
  10. Clean the device: After each use, wipe the nozzle with a clean tissue and replace the cap.

Do miss the dosages. If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it is close to the time for your next scheduled dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dosing schedule. Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one.

  • Systemic effects: Although beclomethasone dipropionate is primarily targeted at the nasal passages, some of the medication may be absorbed into the bloodstream and potentially cause systemic effects.
  • Interactions with other medications: inform your healthcare provider about all medications, supplements, and herbal products you are taking, as they may interact with beclomethasone dipropionate.
  • Nasal infections: Beclomethasone dipropionate may suppress the immune system in the nasal passages, increasing the risk of developing nasal infections. If you experience symptoms such as nasal congestion, pain, or discharge that does not improve or worsens, consult your healthcare provider.

  • Adrenal suppression: Prolonged use of high doses of corticosteroids, including beclomethasone dipropionate, may potentially suppress the function of the adrenal glands. This can result in a condition called adrenal insufficiency. If you experience symptoms such as fatigue, weakness, weight loss, or decreased appetite, discuss it with your healthcare provider.
