Drug Description

Uniphyl SR is a medication that contains theophylline, which is a bronchodilator used in the treatment of asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). It helps to relax the muscles in the air passages of the lungs, making it easier to breathe.

Uniphyl SR is typically used as a second-line drug when other medications, such as short-acting bronchodilators or inhaled corticosteroids, are not providing sufficient relief. It is available in extended-release form, which means it is released slowly into the body over a longer period of time, providing a continuous effect.

Theophylline works by blocking certain enzymes that can constrict the airways, allowing them to open up and improve airflow. It helps to improve airflow and make breathing easier. It does this by blocking certain enzymes that can constrict the airways.

Use and Dosage

Theophylline comes in the form of extended-release table to take by mouth as directed by your doctor, usually once a day in the morning or evening. The tablets should be swallowed whole and should not be crushed, chewed, or broken unless your doctor advises otherwise. Doing so can release all of the drug at once, increasing the risk of side effects. It is usually taken orally, with a full glass of water, on an empty stomach.

The dosing frequency will depend on your individual condition and the specific instructions provided by your healthcare provider. Food can affect the absorption of the medication, take Theophylline tablets on an empty stomach. However, your doctor may provide specific instructions regarding taking it with or without food. Theophylline tablets can be taken every 6, 8, 12, or 24 hours. Follow the prescribed dosing schedule. To achieve optimal effectiveness, take Theophylline tablets regularly as prescribed.

If you miss a dose of Uniphyl SR, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it is close to the time for your next scheduled dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dosing schedule. Do not double the dose to make up for a missed one. Consult with your doctor or pharmacist for further guidance.
