Drug Description

Indications

Voltaren Gel Extra Strength is a topical medication used to alleviate pain linked to recent, localized muscle or joint injuries, including sprains, strains, or sports-related injuries such as ankle sprains, shoulder strains, or lower back muscle discomfort.

Classified as a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID), Voltaren Gel Extra Strength functions by inhibiting the production of prostaglandins, a natural substance responsible for pain and inflammation processes within the body.

Uses and Dosage

Before starting treatment with Voltaren Gel Extra Strength and with every prescription refill, carefully review the medication guide and patient information leaflet given by your pharmacist. If you have any queries or concerns, consult your doctor or pharmacist promptly.

Voltaren Gel Extra Strength is intended for external use only and should not be applied inside the mouth or ingested.

This medication is typically applied to the painful area twice daily (morning and evening), as prescribed by the doctor.

To properly use Voltaren Gel Extra Strength, follow these steps:

  1. Remove the seal before initial use by unscrewing and taking off the cap.
    • Use the cap’s reverse side to insert, twist, and remove the seal from the tube.
  2. Squeeze out the gel from the tube and align it with the dosing card included in the product carton to accurately measure the amount of gel applied (2g per application).
    • Maintain proper hygiene by cleaning and drying the dosing card after each application.
  3. Apply the gel to the painful or swollen area, gently massaging it into the skin.
  4. Unless your hands are the treatment site, wash your hands after applying the gel to prevent accidental contact with the mouth and eyes.
  5. After use, reseal the tube with the cap and store it upright.

Avoid applying this gel to skin with rashes, eczema, cuts, or open wounds. Discontinue use if a skin rash develops after application.

Exercise caution when using this gel on large portions of skin and for prolonged periods unless directed by a healthcare provider.

To maximize effectiveness, adhere to a fixed daily schedule for applying this gel, spacing out treatments by 12 hours.

Limit your Voltaren Gel Extra Strength usage to a maximum of 4g per day and for no more than 7 days unless your doctor recommends an extended treatment period. If your condition does not improve within 7 days or worsens, consult your doctor.
