Drug Description

Indications

Lumigan Eyedrops are prescribed to lower elevated intraocular pressure in patients diagnosed with open-angle glaucoma or ocular hypertension.

As a prostaglandin analog, Lumigan Eyedrops facilitate intraocular pressure reduction by enhancing the drainage of fluid from the eye.

Uses and Dosage

Before using Lumigan Eyedrops and with each prescription refill, carefully review its medication guide and patient information leaflet. Consult your doctor or pharmacist for guidance if you have any questions or clarifications.

To prevent potential contact lens staining, remove them before using these eye drops. After each dose, wait at least 15 minutes before reinserting your contact lenses.

Typically, Lumigan Eyedrops are applied to the affected eye(s) once daily in the evening.

To properly use this eye drop, follow these steps:

  1. Thoroughly wash your hands with soap and water.
  2. Inspect the dropper tip to ensure it is intact and undamaged.
  3. Avoid touching the dropper tip or allowing your eye or any other surface to touch it to prevent contamination.
  4. Tilt your head back and use your index finger to gently pull down the lower eyelid, creating a small pocket.
  5. Hold the dropper (tip down) close to the eye without touching it, using your other hand.
  6. Stabilize your remaining fingers against your face.
  7. Look upward and gently squeeze the dropper, allowing a single drop to fall into the pocket formed by the lower eyelid. Remove your finger from the eyelid.
  8. Close your eye and keep it shut for 2 to 3 minutes while tilting your head downward as if looking at the floor. Try not to blink or squeeze your eyelids.
  9. Apply gentle pressure with your finger on the tear duct.
  10. Use a tissue to wipe off any excess liquid from your face.
  11. Replace the cap on the dropper bottle and ensure it is tightly closed. Avoid wiping or rinsing the dropper tip.
  12. Wash your hands to remove any traces of the medication.

When using other eye medications like drops or ointments, wait at least 5 minutes before applying any additional medications. Prioritize using eye drops before eye ointments to ensure proper entry of the drops into the eye.

Use Lumigan Eyedrops regularly, around the same time(s) daily, exactly as directed, for optimal results. Avoid using it more than once daily, as frequent use of prostaglandin analogs may reduce the effectiveness of lowering intraocular pressure.

Continue using Lumigan Eyedrops even if you are feeling well. Do not discontinue the use of this medication without consulting your doctor.
