Drug Description

Indications

Nexletol is a prescription medicine used along with proper diet and maximum statin therapy to help adults who require further reduction of “bad” cholesterol (low-density lipoprotein LDL-C) and have either heterozygous familial hypercholesterolemia (HeFH – an inherited condition leading to high LDL-C levels) or known cardiovascular disease.

Classified as an adenosine triphosphate-citrate lyase (ACL) inhibitor, Nexletol functions by inhibiting the liver’s production of cholesterol.

Uses and Dosage

Before taking Nexletol and with each prescription refill, carefully review its medication guide and patient information leaflet. Seek advice from your doctor or pharmacist if you have any questions or uncertainties.

Typically, Nexletol is taken once a day as prescribed by the doctor, without regard to food intake.

For optimal results, take this medication regularly at the same time daily. Avoid taking more or less of it or taking it more frequently than prescribed by your doctor.

Continue taking Nexletol, even if you do not experience any symptoms, as individuals with high cholesterol typically do not feel unwell.

  • Rash

Not all side effects of Nexletol are included in this list. In case of any unlisted effects, tell your doctor immediately.

Cautions

Before starting treatment with Nexletol, inform your doctor and pharmacist of any known allergies, particularly to bempedoic acid, other drugs, or any of the components of Nexletol tablets.

  • Liver disease
  • Kidney disease
  • Gout
  • Tendon problems

Inform your doctor and pharmacist of all prescription and non-prescription drugs, vitamins, and herbal supplements you are taking to lower the risk of drug interaction with Nexletol.

The use of Nexletol during pregnancy is not recommended, as it may pose a risk to the unborn baby. If you become pregnant, promptly consult your doctor regarding the potential risks and benefits associated with this medication.

The transfer of bempedoic acid into breast milk is currently unknown. A decision regarding the use of Nexletol or breastfeeding should be made in consultation with your healthcare provider. Both options should not be pursued simultaneously.
